How to turn off shadows ?

Post by UlteriorModem » Mon, 28. Nov 05, 17:33

I have read several topics on improving performance.

Most of them mention turning off shadows and bump maps.

I cannot find where to turn these off. Ive looked in game, in the manual, at my video card settings etc.

Sorry for a dumb question but where are these settings found ? :?

Nvidia Geoforce Ti4600 128meg.

Yea I know its dated but maybe I get something new for xmas :)

I'm pretty sure there aren't any shadows for you to turn off. As for bumpmapping - you can't.

I'm pretty sure your graphics card is below minimum spec, and if not, it's barely supported.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Im guessing those recommendations (shadows off) were left over from X2 ?

The GPU is listed in the system spec thread (shrug).

Anyone with older Nvidia GF cards have some suggestions ?

I think there is a tool around here somewhere that can force your card to use 1.4 shaders...it might help your fps

Hi there, well I'm using a GF 6200, which as far as I'm concerned, is quite a bit crap. I tend to keep shaders on low, mainly because it adds alot of fps, plus it just doesn't look right at every station and ship looks like it's made out of chrome. talk about bling bling.
anyway, whats the res of your monitor, try turning up the res of the game to match the monitor res, textures high, and download rivatuner and force shader 1.4 (you can force 1.1 but i haven't gone that low) helps alot if you like the shader on med or high. lemme know how it turns out.
Peace.

Just a quick update.

I tried the Rivatuner and forced the 1.3 shaders with considerable improvement.

Another thing I found was my AGP aperature had been set back to 64 somehow. I increased that to 128.

These two changes alone probably increased frame rates by 25%.

I tried overclocking a bit but just results in a lock up (shrug).

Make sure if you do use Riva tuner that you create a profile so you can reset for other games. My Tiger Woods golf game looked so bad It could not be played. Resetting back to all the defaults fixed that.

Havent tried xpsmoker yet. Can you use it to control the background services ? Has anyone have a good suggestion about controlling the services ? I remember an applet for 98 called "end it all" anything like that for XP ?
