I've bought six tickets now, and not won yet.
Is it actually possible to win, or is this just a pretend bbs thing?

AFAIK nobody has won the lottery in either X2 or X3 without the use of a custon script.
Could the parents of the little Argon girl, Suzie, please claim her sealed jar of remains?
She didn't mind the gap and ended up vapourized!

When X3 first came out there was an "I won the X3 Lottery Thread" I never read it so he may have been joking, and I don't want to go through 100 pages of posts to check.

Nah, the guys name would be all in caps, and he'd be a 'REPRISENTATIVE' of 'A FORMER MANIGING DIREKTOR' with 'CASH NEDING TO BE TRANSFERRED' who just happens to only have a hotmail address :-)

I must have bought about 200+ tickets in X2 and never won. Either I was VERY unluck or it wasn't possible. Given that many of the BBS messages in X3 haven't been changed since X2 it's probably still impossible to win. But I could be wrong, time will tell...

(I don't know what the Born Queen's daughter has been getting up to but she keeps getting attacked. She used to get attacked in X2...)

Not really, I am playing the old statistical game of picking numbers that are as close to the last winning set as possible. Not won yet, but we still have till the end of the world :P

It's not possible. At least, it wasn't in X2; and it's reasonable to expect that it's not possible in X3 either. Even if it /were/ possible, the odds work out to be so astronomical that it might as well /not/ be possible.

I gather that there's apparently code in the game (X2 here, again) to handle winning the lottery - or at least, there's a congratulatory message that can potentially display - but there's just no way to /trigger/ it.

Besides, the jackpot is usually some ridiculous game-breaking number, like 15 billion credits. Your wallet can only hold 2 billion. :)

I'm just glad X3 has Blackjack, which you /can/ win.

I haven't won the lottery, but get this... in the Boron Territory I ran into a BBS thread that was great. You could actually gamble with the guy. Playing 21. You can play as much as you want. I had to run after I had won $10,000 and went back to a save game prior and the message board had changed. Darn!!! I know it exists and look forward to playing again. You can bet $500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000, $50,000 and I think $100,000. Good luck to you all.

Yeah, and it's a nice touch, too - I like how if you reload your game, the blackjack message disappears, so you can't actually cheat at it. :)
