Mobile drilling system

When do you use a mobile drilling system?
It sounds as if you use it in mining, but I have set up several mines by just scanning the asteroid and then adding the mine.

You can blow the roid in small pieces and collect them, provided you have a ship with XL cargo and a ore collector equipped.

Or you could just pick on the slightly smaller pieces and shoot them with a standard laser.

The Mining Laser is designed to break up any sized roid so you can pick up the pieces and sell them.

In X3 1.3, the smaller roids dont need this laser at all, any gun seems to do them.

But.....to pick up the peices you have to target and collect them MANUALLY yourself. Where in X2, you could order a ship to pick them up automatically.

And therefore the mobile drill has little use.

In X2 you had to use the drill, or Hornets. Now a puny IRE will do.

Teladi Falcon Hauler. M3 that can carry XL. Can only fit less than 20 silicon at a time, but with freight beamer and superfreighter around that sounds like a nimble miner.
