I've seen many topics with the " Maelstrom" and I have a question:
- What is Maelstrom? Is that a sector or a ring? Is that a ship or a station?
What the hell is that?

to the very far east of the universe, full of pirates and leads to two unknown sectors, inside the second one of which there is a nice surprise - you will find the details in some of the many posts detailed "Free Ships"

not much in Maelstrom itself, which is the SE point of the universe.
Off it are 2 unknown sectors, the second of which has a nice surprise
In maelstrom, you need to go west, and in the next sector, south. Both gates can be hard to spot, make sure you dont go too high or low.
Getting to Maelstrom itself, go south from argon space until you get to Resevour of tranquility. Then go east until you get to interworlds. North into wastelands, east until grand exchange, then south to maelstrom.
All other ways there go through xenon territory. Fun if your ready for it, but most are not in the early part of the game.
Take full note of interworlds stations, you will want to go back there after
