Why do Destroyer and Carrier Class ships look IDENTICAL......???

Post by Charlie901 » Wed, 1. Feb 06, 20:30

Why is the ARGON ONE and the TITAN, exactly the same ship, visually.

Same goes for the other races..........

Should'nt a CARRIER Class ship have a HANGER BAY somewhere....???

Is there a CARRIER CLASS Model, for all races, hidden in the game files somewhere?

Is this something that can be addressed or added?

They are small diiferences. I think that on one hand they wanted continuity of ships. On the other hand it was pure lazyness. :P

the argon one is the flagship of the argon millitary there is no difference because it is just the first of the colosus type carrier to be made "because of a reported xenon supership" according to Betty

Try this link;

http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=100641

There is an X3 pictorial size of all the capital class ships and their sizes. there are differences if you look at the M1 and M2's, and their stats are different while one can carry fighters, the other cannot. I cannot open that link but its there under ship stats.

Nice link thanks!

It makes it easier to notice the subtle differences when they are to scale and side by side like that.

Because they ARE the same ship--they're both carriers. If you'd compared the Titan to Argon One you might have had a point, but even then there are differences between the two.

The ships I don't like for being cap ships that actually have to transport something are the split ships. The elephant is too thin to carry anything and the carrier is also pretty thin.

the Argon One is nothing more than than a normal carrier which has flagship status within the game.

i think with the fact that the xenon and the khakk have both had M0's that each race should have its own flagship that is a M0

Heh, if you look at the Argon M1 side shot, you see that it has a HUGE space cannon built on top of it, from the looks of it it can turn 90 degree up and 180 to side. :P

And the Paranid TL and M1 are only missing Mast on top of them to make it perfect sailing boat for the borons. should they ever want to be on the water. :D

And as for the ships looking alike, what's the point in making 2 different hulls if you can make one that can be either carrier or destroyer, it costs credits to design ships doesn't it.

charlie901, have you tried the second link I gave you that puts all the capital ships on the same page for size comparisons?

However, if you look at it in-game it becomes quite obvious that this "space cannon" is just another engine.

the boron look alive ships

the Teladi just a lot of junk and huge

I dunno. I agree with the first guy.

The Destroyers and Carriers are almost visually identical, except for a line here or a hangar bay hammered on there.

Personally, I'd like for them to be visually obvious as to their purpose. They look like one hull design slightly altered. I know it's probably wrong to bring up 'real world' ships, but it is immediately obvious as to which ships are carriers and which are destroyers. Namely, the former has big runways (hangars) and the latter has more guns. I know this is a sci-fi/fantasy game, but you'd figure the hangars would be massive and obvious, something the ship is built around since that is its purpose. As it is, you have to struggle to visually ID the difference between, say, a Argon or Split M1 versus their same M2. If it didn't have the icon in the upper corner or tell you its name when clicked on, you'd really be in a bit of a bind.

But... it's not a major enough issue for me to worry about. I just hope they take it into account for X4.
