For those of you're struggling, how to kill a Kha'ak destroyer. MINOR TACTIC SPOILER

Post by Sharktooth » Fri, 10. Feb 06, 11:30

I have found a Kha'ak invasion fleet last night, there was one consisting of 4 Kha'ak Destroyers and 2 Carriers with M3's and M4's in Rhy's Desire. I took several attempts at this as Destroyers with GKyons are nasty stuff. They have the same shielding but are much smaller so more difficult to hit.

One method would be the old flying towards you and letting loose a few unknown objects, keeping deistance between each one while they were locked onto an asteroid behind the destroyer, they will ignore it, but the missile will make contact.

Another one would be hiding behind an asteroid and exploiting it against the destoyer. But if you're in a big ship like I was, in my Titan, thats more challenging.

Call aid from a nearby M1/2 if your race rank is high enough, let them muster as much damage as they can. They do go kaboom. You do the rest.

Finally, have a fleet of M2's with escorting M1's. Don't let the M1's attack but release the fighters they are carrying. Whilst you are within 10km off the destroyer, assign you other M2's (I had 2 Titans with me) to Attack all enemies, then turn your ship so your broadside is facing your enemy. Hold d to strafe right towards it keeping that broadside loaded with b/gPPC's facing the enemy. At the same time assign your fighter's to attack target. They get there first and the more fighters you have the less they get hit each. You can see the gKyons being kept busy on them. By now, you should be in range to attack from your broadside. The other Titans wiped out the fighters, then moved into aid me. There is no chance of dodging Kyon shots unlike with enemy PPC's, I can dodge that by strafing up/down and moving left/right in conjunction so only 10-20% of PPC shots hit me. It works well on K's but not Kha'ak M2's. The destroyer was gone only having lost 5% of my shields, and I lost 4 M3's of a squad of 60. That's not much loss, I can afford that easily. This type of combat is a credit hole with no bottom unless Kha'ak has been capped or left crates of gKyons, etc. Do they drop crates at all? I haven't seen any.

Why not just turn away from them and kill em with turrets, sure its not a noble fight, but its far more efficient....

True, but their Kyon's can reach futher than your PPC's can to target an enemy ship and fire. I hear that PPC's have very good range but you will have to fire it yourself. I also prefer noble combat in the limits of my credit pool. Also Kha'ak Kyons never miss a big target, apparanently.

There is also the exciting way of destroying the Khaak M1 + M2 in a M3 with Ahepts or MD.
You should fly into the very small space/hole in their back, where for example the M1 can launch fighters from, and then let loose unharmed.
Unless you bang into its hull :) It's a bit tricky to stay there.

I don't remember who wrote about it on the forums first, but it's really brilliant if you (like me) don't own a M2.
I never would have given that strategy a thought if I hadn't read about it.
I have destroyed 1 Khaak M2 and 2 M1's that way in a Nova Raider.

A bit unrealistic, but you can't have them nasties running loose in the universe..

Yeah, they wipe out most anything in a sector. They are nast buggers. I wonder why the race themselves in which a sector is being attacked are not sending war fleets themselves to deal with an invasion? It took the Split ages in the sector around Rhy's Desire to recover. Khaak Destroyers live up to their name, they destroy anything and get destroyed themselves.

Killing Khakk M2 with an m3 is suprisingly easy. I had a Khakk M2 in orebelt at the start of game. I used the found nova with 4 ahepts and 4 aires to take it out with the local support troops. You just fly up and into the snout on the M2 ah la StarTrek doomsday machine. and just hang in the opening. Fire ahepts until energy low switch to aires or stop fireing and repeat until dead. You need to be futsy with the speed and strafe to stay in place as you can clip into the side of the M2 and then you die.

Interestingly I did not read about it on the forum I tried it as a desperation move. Took me a couple of tries to get it right. I even got credit for the kill payed me a whole 10,000 counters. Seems like they are cheap skates with the dosh on them M2s Argon Btartds!

Have Fun

You were in Titan ?!

And you had problems with the destroyers? I belive Titan has immense firepower and PPCs have much higher range than KYONS. Can you just shoot it with B/GPPCs to the death from some distance?

EDIT: I never tried it myself in a Titan as I got rid of Khaaks long before I got it. Dragon worked fine and for it there is even a range when KYONS still don't get you but your PPC lands shots just fine (around 4.3 km).

I've used the Split elephant rear turret trick so far. It's slow but it works.

(Buy an elephant. Put Beta PPCs in the rear turret, then get the khaak ship to chase you. The Beta PPC has a bigger range then the khaaks kyon emitors, and the elephant is faster, so you can keep just outside their weapons range and just inside yours. Over time you nibble it to death :D )
