Has anyone managed it?

I've tried a few times, mostly by jumping ahead to the next gate to get ahead of the thing. All that's resulted is it blowing up.

Not that I've had many chances. I've only seen them a few times. I wouldn't mind one as a personal ship.

From what I understand, the UFO is more of a world object like a navsat or a crate than a ship like a Nova or a Discoverer for example. So the only way you could possibly own one to fly is with some SERIOUS modding. You couldn't even just script one in as your ship, as it isn't really a ship.
