Why would anyone want a M1/M2 ?

Post by The Rogue Trader » Mon, 3. Apr 06, 19:33

Why does anyone want an M1 or M2 ?
I have a fleet of Split Elephants (16) acting the part of Carriers, they are a lot cheaper than carriers, and I have a larger fleet of M6's (120) acting the part of Destroyers. So why waste money and resources on the Flagships when it could be better spent on complexes/factories ?
I can pretty much destroy anything in an M6 (with the help of Typhoon Missiles). Please take the time to vote and give a breif explanation for your vote.

Thanx

i see what you mean to an extent, but they act as great carriers, ie carrying weapons, nrg shield etc. Now ill be the first to admit, it would take something else to drag me away from my Osprey, especially wth its Nova wingman, but there is just some stuff you cant do with them. with a decent carrier you never need go home again. Its a mobile HQ.

I kitted out my M2 Titan with 24 Alpha FAA, plus 8 B-PACs in the front and 8 B-PBEs in the rear (PPCs for all around available in case of capship encounters).

With that, I managed to clean out Moo-Keye's Revenge, or however that sector is called. It was crawling with pirates, at least 20 M3s and as many M4s, with some M5s for good measure. My shields never dropped below 75%.

Had I taken a fleet of M6, I would have succeeded, as well, but I would have lost a few ships (thanks to what passes for an AI).

Thus, I prefer my Titan. Gotta kiss more Split butt to buy that Python. :)

As much as I love my Elephant I don't want a fleet of them... I WANT MY M1!!! followed by a M2 escort and lots of M3s and carnage... Don't forget the carnage :D

M1/2 class ships are great as deep patrol vessels. I used to have them (before restart) on extremely long patrols, covering 20-30 sectors each. Their main role was to prevent khaak destroyers/carriers from blocking up a sector again, and to deal with any other large khaak infestations.

I used M6 class ships on shorter patrol routes, no more than five sectors.

You need some if you want to seriously take on the Xenon, especially in their main sector, but otherwise they're not of much use, except to look cool., a job, I might add, that they do superbly well....

Personally I prefer to fight in my Nova Raider. I haven't bothered to buy anything bigger then an M3 as yet, I might, but a TL with a fighter wing would suit me for a good long while yet.

sure a fleet of M6's, M5's, M4's, and M3's can take down a bunch of stuff but its funner to say "i took two ships in and took out the sector". at least i think its better than "yea i took in 250 ships and whiped out the sector" if you take in 250 ships you better take out the sector. plus, the bigger the ship the cooler you are. everyone knows that.
You know you have had enough when you dock at a pirate base and toss a couple bucks at the monitor...

I want one, badly. I love watching them in action. I'm running LV's Skirmish script, watched two Pythons utterly anihilate the Trading Station in Nyana's Hideout. Completely, and utterly wasted. I don't think it took more than 15 seconds. 80 GPPC combined makes short work of anything.

That alone, make me want one more than ever. Ideally, 5 of them would rock. Use the Sector Takeover script, jump them in with their compliment of secondary ships, and watch them wipe out the entire sector in a matter or seconds. :D

So, to answer your question, hell yes I want one.

I just want to oversee the building of my first station from the bridge of a Python.

I had an empire. Station complexes. M6 sector patrols. Everything. For less than a year. Everything built from what I earned with the ships that Ban Danna and Elena Kho gave me. Then the Khaak attacked. Destroyed everything. Left me with "one of those new M4" and 450 in the bank. I thought that I was a good pilot. Apparently, I was not good enough. I thought that I had a strong ship. It was not Buster. Now I shall fly and fight until I reach perfection. That includes flying the big kites. Then I shall rebuild, if needed.

To put it simply,i love the look of the m2s,and its great to have a personal flagship to sit there and watch a war and not worry about getting wasted by a few missles lol.I cant afford an m2 nor have the race rank to get 1 but i will get 1 (i like the look of the titan and taladi m2,yet to see the paranid and split m2s)

Invade the Khaak sectors or even the Xenon sectors with your 120 M6's and you'll see the need for M2/1....

M1 allow you to jump 40-50 M3 ship anywhere fast...
M2 allows me to be absolutely invincible (given the right tactics)

i think im gonna save up hard to buy an m2, and twin it up with my Osprey (x2 this is). Then im gonnagrow a set of bals and cruise into a Xenon sector and generally see how long i can lasst before jumping out again.

I think id last long enough...

But i wouldnt be able to do it for a long time withoout the M2, and hence why they are eventually a necessity...

I use 3X M2 titan's 1X M1 colosus all maxed out gppc's and bppc's they are my OOS XI/AS Mission fleet they have made roughly 400,000,000 for me without me even bothering to check on their progress OOS, and they always get the kills both all k's and all j's.

And they also wipe out any khaak destoryers stupid enough to get my attention without me even having to bother checking on them.

The M1 has 30 nova raiders all loaded with 20 hornets and ahepts all round, some times OOS they never even undock to get in to the fight as the M1 will have never taken a hit.

It means I can get on with building weapons factories to equip my large anti khaak fleet which I will jump into khaak sectors.

And every now and then i will jump in the m2 for a fly and visit all sectors with a pirate base and wipe em out you can do it in an M6 but anchory port will take a while and you cant hold the ecells to do it in one go like you can with an M2.

I do use elephants as OOS patrol ships for pirate sectors with 2 m6 escorts and 14 m3's but never in xenon sectors as you can loose the odd m3's or worse an m6 and at 3 ,000,000- 13,000,000 cr a pop it is costly with out any reward, a single m2 patroling getsu fune and menelaus paradise never even looses a bar of shielding.

My reasons to use M1/M2s

Post by kurush » Mon, 3. Apr 06, 22:20

I finally left my Mamba Raider after buying my first Raptor. It is probably the first ship in the game that can be more efficient than Mamba ;) Clearing nasty Xenon sectors finally got a new meaning. And you finally have a cargo hold that can take all these nice GPPCs they drop :) :) :)

I do not believe in fighting in TLs. I own only one Orca and it might be Ok out of sector but it will get owned in sector for sure. I tried M6ses and I finally reverted to heavy fighters. May be I should give them another try on 1.4.

Split Carrier is fun to fly and its survival ratio is pretty high. Destroyers are good at blocking Xenon streams from some sectors. Any combination of M6/TL/M3,4,5 will inevitably suffer losses, if Xenon grops, led by Ps keep attacking it. I have Titans doing this job. No losses so far...

I Badly want an M2 prestige, superiorityand accidently killing ship by flying thru lanes of traffic

Turning point was when i flew thru a xenon sector in my Raider with 3 after me the amount of shots coming at me looked v cool so i stuck around and flew circles round them for a bit enjoying the view got cocky and in flak range.

end of.

Mainly so you can say look at all these lovely big guns sooooo shiny.

Let's see here,

Elephant - 5 x 125MJ

Raptor - 5 x 1GJ

Python - 8 x 1GJ

You need 8 Elephants to get the shielding of the Raptor and basically 13 to get the shielding of a Python. That is 138.4M to equal the Raptor and 221.44M to equal the Python. This is just talking shielding alone, not mentioning weapons, hull, recharge capacity and the like.

Well, I personally find M2's and M1's very useful, I wouldn't have obtained a combat rank any where near as high as mine is without one.

Good pilot as you might be I doubt you could clear one of the denser Xenon sectors in a TL or an M6, they can get very hairy even in an M2 having to deal with as many as 5-6 Xenon cap ships at any one time, plus hordes of M3's.

Carriers I find extremly useful, quite frankly because I want to carry around more ships than a TL can hold, I keep all the caps I make in my Raptor using it as a kings mobile workshop to ferry the caps around to shipyards, Equipment docks and my stations fixing them up before they're reassigned , usally to another carrier.

One of my carriers holds about 35 L's and about 25 Nova's, a fairly deadly little fleet when unleashed and a bargin too as they're all repaired caps.

Well if its only the Xenon you want to wipe out just nip into paronid space pick up one of there odysseus M2's Max it out 9 GPSG'S & 9 BPSG's then pop over to your local Xenon sector and say hallo :fg:
God when those things open up the hole sector will be in ashes in about 5 min, real nice chap what!
but be warned if your going to let him do the bus on his own don't get to close or even you osprey will end up with the same fate as the poor old Xenon SPACE DUST! :fg:
Shockwave Generators are not fussy which ship they vaporize.

On topic well got to say haven't really played X3 much so don't really know what the state of the cap ships are there but wouldn't be without my oddy in X2.
