Wingmen?

Post by Gazzereth » Mon, 24. Jul 06, 16:05

I've seen the option on the Command Console to set wingmen, but as far as i can see it doesnt do much?

Any ideas on its purpose?

Assigning ships to 'wingmen' status gives you two advantages (that I can think of):

- you can use the shift-6 and shift-7 shortcut commands to 'attack my target' and 'protect me'
- you can command them through the broadcast to sector menu.

Oh, they'll jump to follow you as well, as long as they got jumpdrives and enough ecells, and you've used the command menu, not shift-j to jump.

hi guys
I'm flying a nova raider with 4 wingmen also in nova raiders, My wingmen seem to get attacked first by pirates which gives me time to cream them. there also very useful also in assination missions - good for taking out the corvettes. but a word of warning do not get in front of ure wingmen they tend to fire thro u to get at the target. I've been killed a few times now with my wingmen. but overall i've found them handy.
Have fun Guys

Yes, the "Set to Wingman" setting basicly makes them respond to the "wingman hotkeys" other wise it doesn't do anything else. So if you ordered the ships to "protect you" they would still jump to follow you etc. etc. as the others have mentioned. However changing there orders on the fly is more difficult as the broadcast to all command may effect ships you don't want and finding them individually maybe problematic in a large list of ships(in your busy sectors, as you may have lots of UT's and Station tenders with there escorts or just some sector patrols.) Specially if the command is time sensitive.

It's very helpful to pick a target and hit shft-7 or what ever(Sorry can't remember them right off the top of my head.) then personally attack another target. Also helpful say to send wingmen to attack a big target say TL in assassin mision while you kill the escorts.
