Wingmen

1) For the MK3 trading software, you may purchase them from the Teladi and the Terracorp HQ. You will also need at least 1 of the maximum shield the ship can hold (I advise you max out all the shields as your UT become good money earners and it is a wise investment). You will also need the Fight Software 1 & 2, Navigation Software and Jumpdrive. I advise putting on the Special command software (so you can add other remote commands such as gathering floating wares and moving pilots to different ships). You will need to make them Sector Traders(they will remain in the specified sector only) until they reach level 8, then you can activate the Universal trader option.
2) You cannot hire wingmen in the vanilla game (I believe there are scripts that may allow you to do so - check the stickies). However, you can make your own ships (bought or captured) act as your wingmen once you equip them properly.

When you start the ship as ST or UT for the first time, a pilot is automatically assigned to the ship from the race territory your in at the time.Coridan wrote:Alright, thanks.
One more thing... how do you actually GET someone to be a trader and work for you? Just talk to them?
you just turn the command on.

wingman commands are:
shift 6 - wingman attack my target
shift 7 - wingman protect me
I use Milos' scripts for the wingman functions, but that's a bit more advanced..
BTW: there is a full keyboard layout available via the Hints thread in the "stickies" above..

There are two things that say "Wingman". One is a setting in one of your ships, in the command menu, that says Wingman Yes/No. This is only for ships that are wingman for the ship that you are in. It lets you use hotkeys to command the wingman ships.
The other is an "Assign Wingman" command used in the Patrol commands for larger ships. It is used for your patrol leader ships running automatically, to assign wingmen ships to them. For these ships, do not set the "Wingman" setting in the command menu.
You can also give a Fight command to smaller ships to "Protect ship" or "Protect Me". These are the same commands the hotkeys use.

There were some wingman scripts for X2, but I don't think they have been updated for X3 yet. I used "Marks Fight MkIII Wingman".
In X3 it seems to make a big difference what ship is used as wingman. I had a Pirate Falcon M3 for a while but he never seemed to shoot at anything. I think the turning speed might be too slow.
I captured a Xenon "L" and made it my wingman and he shoots a lot, and mostly hits. So the AI must be a bit limited as to what ship types work best.
Also, wingmen assigned to the leaders that use the "Patrol" command work better. I think it plugs in a different script for it's wingmen, automatically.

In the X2 patrol scripts it was a "Extra command" on the leader.ScorpiusX wrote:Carl is the Assign Wingman command found on the Patrol Leader and if so Where?
In X3 I am not sure, but I think the leader automatically senses the ships that are running "follower" commands. So you might just use the "Protect" command, but do it before you give the leader the "Patrol" command. I think...
