Oh man where can I get that hammerhead?!
I just tried out the hammerhead missile for the first time. Anyway, I was about 10 km away and targetted a heavily escorted nemesis and let it rip. It was pretty slow, so after it left my sight, I thought it missed or did not damage. But then, just when I thought it was time to run, the nemesis and its escorts went "poof" and exploded and disappeared! Where can I buy/make this missile?

No, it isn't. It's LIKE the Firestorm, only better. It actually comes from the Terrans, I believe. That's why it's classed as unknown. If it was a Firestorm, it wouldn't be unknown, would it?Star_Raider15 wrote:the hammerhead is a firestorm torpedo..and i have about 20 of those in my centaur

Well, I get mine from the pirates. And from the occasional 'friendly' ship. Haven't seen nearly as many drop from the Xenon. But I think the lore says they're a Terran device. Only the Argon Secret Service knows for sure, and they're not telling.Star_Raider15 wrote:dont think it comes from terrans i think it comes from xenon cuz everytime i kill an L it leaves behind a hammerhead and i killed 270 L until now

Yeah, it is a Terran missile, designed before the Terraformer (aka Xenon) incursion. But let's go beyond the random generated loot for a while, shall we?Lost Ark wrote:It is a Terran Missle, it only spawns in non-terran vessels as a result of the randomly generated missle contents of all ships.
And Hammerhead = a good 0.4 of a GJ more powerful than a firestorm, and also with a 2km blast range
The best explanation on how did a 700yr old missile design survive up to "present" day, would be the the Xenon continued to use it, after the TF wars.
But how did the other races and pirate factions came in posession of such an ancient weapon that somehow can't be reproduced any more? From the Xenon of course, propably by force.
It's found in the wreckage of pirate and xenon ships because the loot from destroyed ships is randomly generated and egosoft forgot to exclude the hammerhead from the list of selectable equipment.
That's all there is to it.
Inventing bizzare rationalizations to account for it is only going to confuse new players.

As far as my understanding goes, it wasn't by choice. Every ship can spawn with any missles, its just that some are bigger than others and as such disappear due to not being able to be used and/or due to the cargo bay being too small.Nyax wrote:It's found in the wreckage of pirate and xenon ships because the loot from destroyed ships is randomly generated and egosoft forgot to exclude the hammerhead from the list of selectable equipment.
Basically the missle spawns. if it can be used by that ship, then it stays, else it goes.
