Spaceflies
Are spaceflies found randomly everywhere or are they specific to certain sectors. I think I've seen them only once during many, many hours of play and I can't remember where. Any suggestions?

They are random, although the reports on the BBS just might be true.
I have only ever seen them a couple of times in X3. Mostly after the spaceweed and booze have mellowed me out man.
I do know that Fruit flies like a banana. But this may not be very helpful.
Cheers ZB

It was a woman who drove me to drink... you know I never went back and thanked her.

Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

Spaceflies can suddenly appear in sector if the ship is stationary for some time. They suddenly get spawned and may fly near your ship. I have only seen them in sectors with asteroids but there is that BBS message that indicates swarms can be seen in Bala gi joy as well.
The difficulty with X3 is the flies do not like following the playership like they did in X2.

As in X2, spaceflies do not exist OOS... that is at least there is no way to detect them there.

I don't have a problem finding them in my game... I keep bumping into them. Literally. But I have no idea how to collect them
I bought a space fly collector for the first time ever the other day, since I thought a few flies might come in handy for the afterburner. No clue how to use it though. The description says something about emitting a noise which attracts them. So I opened the cargo doors, flew into one of them and it put a 1% ding in the hull of my shiny new M7

it was a fun and quick money earner to go spacefly hunting in X2, but theres a script to have it done for you now, theyre not as easy to find any more either
About the name - i was lost for a name on the forum and looking round, then a Bob Hope film came on, and i thought "that will do nicely"

There are a couple of sectors literally full of spaceflies.
You'll need a spacefly collector and an Ion distruptor,
just stun them, open cargo doors and pick up like you would with any piece of cargo.
Places to find them...
These are the ones I've found to be most populated by spaceflies.
I did write a complete guide on here.
Linked pictures and videos have probably been removed from my image site though.
