TP Class Ships
Okay so with 2.0.0.x I've noticed that all TP class ships can now carry L sized wares (about time this makes them half useful).
However appart from tour of a lifetime missions, has anyone found any use for these ships? does anyone use them at all. Personally there should be a lot more missions based around these ships (E.g. transporting prissoners etc). Plus during these missions attacks can happen and you have to protect the ship....

My favourite is the Manta - big on capacity. When not doing the tourist travels, I scan for Military Transports and then send the TP ahead to the EQ or Trading station to be ready to pick up any Military Personell.
Also when doing a lot of fighting in sector, I order the TP to pick up any abandoned wares.

Well, the Split Iguana freebie does 186 so, it's really useful in getting a small amount of stuff quickly - armed with a jump-drive, it's really useful... I can see a bargain from a nav sat and even if an NPC is going for it, I can generally get the Iguana there first...
So, I wouldn't be without it!

Never once used them (haven't done the tour of a lifetime or another ride to nowhere). I only ever use TS craft for factory resources. Usually use M3 or M6 as sellers. I think TP's have their place just like everything else, but agree it would be better to have some more missions that required their use. Still not sure I'd fly one myself but I'd defintely buy one if I could fly escort for it on a mission.

Well I've just picked up this ship and RE it. So I'll see what I can use it for and let you know, it can hold 500+ L sized cargo which is useful.Sirus5 wrote:Well, the Split Iguana freebie does 186 so, it's really useful in getting a small amount of stuff quickly - armed with a jump-drive, it's really useful... Also has anyone noticed the view on the normal Split Caiman it wrong compared to all other TS and TP ships? your like 100 foot higher than you should be.....

Split Caiman can fly 124 m/s. Only Express, Iguana, and Toucan are faster.
Several foods require space. Rastar, Bofu, and Husk are somewhat compact. There is the "minimum of three" rule: the source, the ship, and the destination. Don't let the ship be the limit.
Equipment docks (ED) have small stocks. But there a Boron Mako (208 units of M, 204 m/s) can do most. Now the M3+ ships (Chimera or Medusa) can haul nearly 300 units of L. Only full ED stock of GPPC does need 300 units and they are XL. (Gee, forgot smaller missiles.) Iguana Vanguard is the only TP to really contend the M3+, and one cannot buy them.
So the TP are still in a very very small niche, even though they can now carry L, and one can "mass"-produce the unique models.
A Toucan Hauler with jumpdrive and top level Commercial Agent. Enough fuel space for long jumps. IIRC, the Agent can buy more than one ware on one trip out. Microchips, etc are small quantity items. But only the HQ needs them. Still a niche.

After reading to this point, apart from XL goods, the TP's seem to be a pretty good choice for the HQ for RE'ing. As yet in this new game, I have not done the Bala missions and in the old one never did an RE (as I never capped an LX! ). Worth a good thought for me to look into it.
Oh yes, I did use a few actually in the old game, I used that spacefly capture script (sorry - forgot who the author is and have not got it on the comp anymore. nice script too. ).
