Mission through Maelstrom?

As part of the mission I have been told to go to the unknown sectors next to Maelstrom, but what am I supposed to be looking for? all I found was a load of asteroids.

If you find an abandoned Nova in a sector, that is the right sector - it's not the sector next to Maelstrom, but the one after...

If you are in this sector, look to the South West corner (or was it South East) and find some asteroids - when you get close to that, you will find a few other things (ships)...

Yes the South gate is more south west than south, at
-36.0km
0m
-60.km
