Yup those are the Flaks

A lot of the time I wish they weren't so damn loud. It's a lot worse when you fly around a Raptor with 8 of them. 8 flaks in a pirate sector + 5.1 sound = owie. It's by far the loudest thing in the game.

Being so loud actually lessens their entertainment value, imo. They're louder than an exploding ship or station which takes away a little bit of the satisfaction of blowing stuff up in the first place. Will I stop using them? No friggin way, noise aside they still kick major Kha'ak.

When I first heard them going off from capital sector ships (this would be like a year ago) I got really freaked out because I thought they were Hammerhead missiles exploding nearby :D

Possibly the most giggle worthy thing you can do in X3 is fit a Split Python out with all Alpha and Beta Flak Cannons and go for a cruise in Pirate Alley.

The Carnage must be seen to be believed. Also you get more than a few bailing ships

I kinda like that they're so loud. A real herald of doom. It's probably the most terrifying sound you can hear if you happen to BE in a fighter. Nigh on certain death usually follows soon after :)

Call me a bad pilot, but I got battered by the flaks on a Xenon destroyer in my Centaur . . . I jumped because I'm a coward.

First time I encountered flaks I had the bass turned up to 10 [and then some] and when I got hit they made the house vibrate.

Flaks on Xenon cap ships

Post by bdpayne45 » Sun, 14. Jan 07, 23:48

if i barrel roll in right and come in over the side of the cap ships they never even fire the flaks at me if i do it wrong i lose about 40% shield on my M7 before i kill them. i normally try to get 2 cap ships off to their self with their escorting fighters and take them out then charge my shields and take 2 more .

In the M7, you should be able to take out capital ships withough coming in range of the flacks.

In an m7, the BHEPTS can get the ship way out of range of flak, and then if theres no other ships around, you can close the distance and settle under his underbelly without him being able to fire a shot. Go nuts.
Split now give me death? Nah. Just give me your ship.

in all other slots i come barrel rolling in and fly in circles around the cap ship at about 500m. he is dead before he can hurt me.and i am getting better at it, just took out 7 cap ships and fighters in a row before i went to about 10% shields :) am recharging now about to finish off this sector, 534

And there is no need to recharge shields either;

Doesn't work- if you pick up shields they require time to charge
Fleet-
Excelsior- Argon Colossus M1
Solace- Paranid Hyperion M7
Absolution- Xenon LX M3+
Dauntless- Argon Eclipse M3+
Celestial- Argon Discoverer "Starburst" M5+
And several battered pirate ships docked in the carrier waiting to be fitted or sold

I noticed that after the latest patch. If you drop new shields into a ship, be careful. It won't have any shields until they charge. :o

Those are FAA's? Nice; I assumed they were concussion generators.

With the K's and J's I just zip in from their top or bottom, then stop and unload from about 700m - if it's done right, you won't get hit at all; it's too easy in fact, unless you're fighting more than one or two at a time.

one thing i hate about the M7 is the SLOW shield recharge rate, a technique to recharge shields, though this will only work in a friendly sector - have one of your ships docked at a station, go there and freight exchange one of it's shields into your ship, instant recharge and off you go. works well on a long xenon invasion mission.

The best weapon in M7 against capital ships are the PSG, and those do require being in FAA range. The best weapon in Dragon against capital ships is APPC, and it never needs to get that close.

My first ship with FAA was Albatross. It was quickly out of power, but that was enough to convince me that I wan't BFAA. The ultimate of that is to slide a Xenon K next to the jumping J in XI mission so that three turrets (20 BFAA) open fire on it.

Yes, they are loud. Very loud. But I can stand that. It is the noise of MD that I do not like.

There is quite nothing like get an assassination mission, dash near that M5 of the mark with your M5, kill it on first pass, and watch "The End", because you flew too close to the FAA bearing Carrier. All this naturally without saving first, so you don't need to try again.
