Are firestorm torpedo's worth it?

I was thinking of adding a firestorm factory to my complex. Are they useful? It looks like it does a lot of damage. My goal was to load up some dragons with APPC's and firestorm's and use them in a bomber role against stations and cap ships. I could also put them on my M2.

They definitely will do the job against any target they hit. Getting past the targets defence is the problem - not so much with stations, somewhat a problem with capitol ships, big problem with M6 and below. (But why would you use a Firestorm on them?

Firestorms are station killers.

Using them on a Capital ship is asking to get blown up, as they have a rather large blast radius and the Capitals will shoot them down.

Trying to take on M2s with Firestorms was, 9/10 times, the death of my Dragon.

Ah, thanks. Good thing I didn't buy my dragons yet. I sorta pictured it working like the torpedo from Wing Commander III.

A good tactic against capital ships is to fire first a couple of wasps and then the torpedo.

That depends on what you have and what they have.

Fly a ship with no proper anti-fighter weaponry. Like Ray. Go to Xenon sector. If the Xenons are not too close to you, they will stay in cruise mode. That is in formation and at half speed. Or at the speed of their leader. And that tends to be less than the speed of Firestorm.

Each P, K, and J has two wings (of four) of fighters as escorts. Youy can take out the entire P formation or one fighter wing with one Firestorm. From distance. P has no turret. Neither has L or M. But LX has. And LX within blast radius of the torpedo is dead.

That leaves only the K's and J's for the Ray to kill. Ray cannot fight LX, so it is better to kill them before they know that there could be a fight.

But is it worth it? There will be no bails, no loot, and no fight. Just safe killing. Value of such things is subjective. Up to you.
