[UPDATED][MOD]Neuman's HUD replacement v1.1 [XTM 0.7 & DDRS compatible!]

Post by neumanf15 » Sun, 11. Feb 07, 04:02

Ever get tired of the Egosoft blue being all over your screen? Ever want a different set of colors while playing X3? Ever wish you could look at the icon and KNOW if it's an M1 or M2? Here's the solution:

Neuman's GUI replacement. :o
ZIP version - only version of my mod that currently is XTM compatible! - New link

RAR version - XTM compatibility not included
EXE version - XTM compatibility not included

[UPDATE]XTM Compatible version notes: Two folders in the ZIP - XTM and Non-XTM. ONLY USE THE XTM VERSION WITH XTM! Vanilla and all other mods use the Non-XTM version.
With XTM: Only two M7s will use the M7 icon - Hyperion and the Boron Whale - all others are seen as M1s - Hard-coded.
Lifeforms will appear as UFOs.
Everything else is unchanged.

If you are already using my mod and not XTM, there is no need to download - there are no changes.[END UPDATE]

I won't paste the entire readme here, instead I'll say this: I left two colors untouched: The color of the weapons and the speed bar. Every other color has been shifted or outright changed. Oh, and I've not found a way to change the font colors of any text (your speed and target speed next to the speed bar or hud and the range to target).

WARNING: The color change may initially reduce your ability to cap since capped ships turn yellow now instead of Egosoft blue! Once you get used to it, you'll be right back in the saddle.

In addition, you get HUD minimization/improvement. All those annoying squares around every ship? GONE! Those GIANT station icons on your sector map? Reduced! The inability to tell an M1 from and M2? FIXED - In fact all ship icons except M5 and TS/TP have been enhanced for easier identification!

Want to know more? Read the readme contained in the download that spells out all the changes (I think all of them, anyway...) or visit this thread on the DDRS Forums:
http://www.xforum.chaos.net.nz/viewtopic.php?t=225

Since I know you won't read past the screenshots , here are my credits:
Countless thanks to DeadlyDa for hosting my mod and the screenies below. Also many thanks to the DDRS Beta Testers who helped me with the testing.
Additionally, thanks to:
Doubleshadow - Without his MOD MANAGER, this would've been impossible for me.
fud - For the tutorial that got me through the mod - especially the blasted Alpha Channel!
fud again - For the inspiration for the color changes.
Red Spot - For the inspiration for making the hud less obtrusive.
UniTrader(German forums) - I discovered the icondata.txt file by looking at his hud mod - allowed me to create the M7 icons.

And now for the screenshots! Pics 1,3, 4, 7 & 8 have links to slightly larger versions of the same pic. Enjoy!:D

(Note: The yellow text was added to help explain the changes. It isn't actually in the game.)

(Note 2: If you like the cool ships pictured here (except the chimera), make sure to pick up the latest copy of DDRS (although neither mod requires the other)! The M2 in the friendly hud is my personal favorite: T'Loth):D

I just installed this yesterday (found a link in another thread), and I love it. Great work - I doubt I could go back to playing with the default GUI after trying this.

Looks like Aftershock has discovered a way to change the parts of the hud I thought were unchangeable. I'll look into making further changes sometime in the near future to get those last few pesky colors changed...

I think I'd start playing x3 again if a completly new GUI was made, any hope?

You can change almost everything on the HUD. I made a GUI/HUD mod about 9-10 months ago. It just takes a bunch ot time to make sure everything works correctly.

Hatzi,
I can't see why not. It's all graphical changes - no text changes. The readme could probably be translated, although I'm sure any of the German modders can explain how to set it up as well or better than my readme does.

A shorter answer than previously: yes, it should work.

Thanks for the interest and enjoy.

To whet your appetites... Upcoming in v1.1: A whole separate icon for M7's, so you can tell them from M6's!

I've figured out how to do it, just got to kill a bug and determine the exact icon.

Recently switched over to this GUI, and I have to say 2 thumbs up! While it did take awhile to get used to (months of stock flat blue), it is a vast improvement over the stock game, and declutters the HUD of useless BS while still keeping the relavent bits intact; excellent work neuman! Can't wait to see what you cook up next! :D

Been using this for a few days now and I must say

Very Nice :)

De-clutters the screen a fair bit and makes a good change from stock X3

Thanks for the feedback, folks.

Update: I've squashed the bug I had with the M7 icon files - still trying to find the "perfect" M7 icon. I'd appreciate any ideas anyone has.
