Maelstrom West Gate?

Post by TheRelic » Wed, 28. Mar 07, 02:19

I've been checking the topics requesting help on Bala Gi missions, but unless I missed it, none I have read have mentioned having problems finding Maelstroms West Gate. I have explored the entire sector as best as best as I can zoomed all the way out. I have comm'd all ships that just fly around in circles in the sector going nowhere, thinking perhaps someone gives me coordinates or something, nada. It's a huge sector and I'm hoping the gate isn't one that is off sector screen because my laptop has no numpad so I can't keep scrolling beyond zoom range.
I would appreciate your suggestions on how I might find the West Gate.

First thing first, your laptop does have a numpad, look for a (blue) "Fn" key and then (blue) numbers on your uio - jkl - m,. buttons (or in that general area). press the Fn button then the number, you might want to have to turn on num lock (also blue text on some button).

As for the gate itself, you might want to look in the stickies:

You would've found this: [X3] Merroc's gate coordinates (1/12/2006)

Merroc,
Thank you! This is my first laptop and I'm not very familiar with it. I had no idea that I do indeed have a numpad. For that imformation alone I am very grateful.

Forgive me but I must lol. I never even thought to look in the sticky. I ran a search on Bala Gi and have been reading through the threads. Oh man the time I could have saved ;)

My thanks again.

Don't worry, no one ever does. Nor the FAQ. I guess stickies are seen as uncool like libraries or encyclopedias you pay for. Go Wikipedia!
Come watch me on Twitch where I occasionally play several of the X games

Xenon_Slayer,
Thank you, but that is why I had to lol, I look in the sticky and the faq for imformation alot. I've dl both X3 Handbooks vs 1 and 2 and use them both for reference as well. I have a four inch stack of X3 imfo I have printed out and use for reference that I aquired using the sticky and faq.
I just never saw Merroc's gate coords.

Or mine because my file is in the map category but it is not only a map.

pccenter,
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I crashed out of egosoft last night and could not get back on. I wondered if the site had gone down. I just got home from work and no problem getting back online. I will check your gate coords too. I'm not following Merroc's very well. The game sector map doesn't show individual six digit coord references, and I still haven't been able to find the gate. Am I missing something?

Well, now I learn from reading that I need a tractor beam equipped ship to tow the Yacht out anyway, So I better go buy a capable ship, load it out and come back.

There is a free M6 near the Yacht but in bad contition (hull damage). You can use this ship to tow the Yacht and when you finish the mission, the SY repear both ships for free. But the max speed of the ship is about 18m/s. I usually send it to TD and upgrade the Engine Tuning to max the speed to 36m/s.
Also you need a escort fighter because of the pirates attack near the N gate of Mealtrorm

pccenter and anthony clark,

Thank you both. Kind of ironic actually. I had just about given up trying to find the gate. I was at the far west edge of the map in the center and was going to call it quits for the time being and thought what the heck, I aimed straight for the double planet system thinking I couldn't do any worse than I was. Sheesh I wasn't even paying attention any more and I looked back and what the, there was the west gate icon. I couldn't friggin believe it. I swooped around and headed for that bad boy planning to do a salvage save close to the gate, never know what might happen on the other side. When I got to 16 km I was getting ready to save and my screen went blank. I started hitting keys and nothing, not to mention a little frustrated. Then I remembered. . . I really doubted by now that I would find it. . I hadn't run my laptops battery down for a couple of months, so I was playing on the battery and forgot all about it. Ack! . Found it, just to lose it again! I was not pleased with myself.
It took a while but I did find it again.

I had already decided to go buy an m6 but stumbled on a thread where one of the mods mentioned capping that puppy. I scanned all those derelicts and I knew this was too easy, especially the ones that showed as having pilots, so I waited on the cap, went and bought the TBeam and came back. I only tried it once and as you mentioned 3 of those bad boys come out to play, for which I wasn't prepared. Too tired to really give it my all last night I went to bad after that. Will go for it again later after settling in from work today. This time I will set my Mamba and Nova Raiders to protect me before I lock up the yacht and move out ;)
Thanks again.
