PPC slowdown Question.

Asking anyone that KNOWS the answer to this question:

What is the cause of PPC slowdown:

1:CPU:Every one of the PPC shots require some CPU power, is this the main reason?
2:GPU:Does the graphic load becomes too heavy?
3:RAM:Out of memory.

1, 2 and 3.

There are vast numbers of shots in the air at any one time, each requiring simple physics and collision detection. This eats your CPU.

Each shot needs representing graphically, which eats your GPU.

The position, speed and direction of each shot need to be remembered. This eats your RAM.

You forgot 4--the effect the shot makes on a ship when it hits it has to be rendered as well, and I believe that effect is especially CPU-hungry in the case of the PPC. (I'm pretty sure people have said they get improved framerates by replacing the PPC hit effect with something else).

When I was playing with some BSG ships I changed the PPC/impact effects to look more like the weapons from the show.

I used APBE bullets (nice yellow bolts) and AFLAK impact effects (nice orange explosions).
To my surprise, I got a huge framerate boost!
Wanderin' the wastelands...
