System Overide Software and Software Signature Scrambler
I was just wondering if the SSS is only available at certain bases. I've visted a the pirate bases around the argon prime area and have been unable to locate the SSS only the SOS. I could just buy the SOS anyway, but i've noticed that i get scanned a lot and dont want to lose valuable rep etc.

Not in my game.
If you reload the autosave, I almost always receive different BBS. Whether in a Pirate Base or in any other staion/factory.
What I have realised is that if you dock in a station/factory/Pirate Base, undock and do something for a few minutes, then redock, you will almost always find the same BBS - even on reloading the autosave

the Software scrambler works by making the System Override Software appear to be a normal ship component, thus undectable by the police scanners.
The reason you are getting bombed is thanks to a little bbs post that appears, and offers you "protection" while docked in the station.
If you leave without paying for the "protection" you get destroyed.
Bit of an unfortunate side effect of reading the BBS's in Pirate stations.

You enter sector "first time". No station has messages in BBS.
You dock. Autosave occurs. Still no messages in BBS.
You are in the station. BBS messages generate.
You save explicitly. List of current messages is saved too.
You stay at station. Some messages expire, new are generated.
You exit station. Station caches the current list of messages.
You re-enter the station. The messages are still there.
You exit the sector. The messages are still there.
You re-enter the sector and station. Station purges expired messages. Autosave, and then generate new messages.
Thus load from autosave probably sets you into:
You are in the station. BBS messages generate.
And load from manual save does not.
SSS is "legal". SSS is from BBS. SSS "hides" SOS. SOS is a ship upgrade traded normally. SOS is more convenient than spacewalk, but not as charming. There is quite nothing like standing next to your new ship.

I wrote a little script so pirate bases would sell both items. I hate camping BBS missions. =)Crazypagey wrote:I was just wondering if the SSS is only available at certain bases. I've visted a the pirate bases around the argon prime area and have been unable to locate the SSS only the SOS.

Most of the time you get the SSS from the pirate missions where he asks you to reclaim some of his lost freight. You get to choose either the money or the SSS.
I thought this was the only way until I found it up for sale for 950,000 credits or there abouts.
But as for the rest about reloading I found to be a waste of decent gaming time. Just check in with them whenever you're in system. Much easier.
