[X2] Is it worth Hunting Spaceflys.

Post by soleseacher » Sun, 24. Jun 07, 22:35

Ok to fit a spacefly collector to my Nova cost me 28076 credits & ofcourse the the 1/4 of a mil for the Ion Disruptor to stop them but that I also like to use on pirates when capping in conjuction with my BHEPT.
Anyway back to my point I think it was a very good investment becouse I just made a 1/4 of a mil at a chelt space Aquarium when I flogged them 65 at nearly 5 grand a piece  Pofitssssssssss. :D
I think my best haul so far was 26 in Mines of Fortune while on a mining mission.
Picked up about 1500 silicon wafers too so not a bad haul for a days work
Was just wondering if anyone else bothers with those nice little gold flys wizzing around the universe getting splattered on out screens

I will say no. For the simple reason that you can normally earn more money in the same time by selling ore and silicon.

X2 - I hunt them for a purpose - I use them in my fusion injector equipped ships to get my slower M6 osprey out of the way of faster assassination mission M6s while the Osprey rear turret does damage with BPSGs.

Also for my TPs when doing the "Ride to Nowhere" missions which give me more sectors for my paying passengers to view and be amazed at.
Usually 1 spacefly per use (volume 5) as opposed to 15 Ecells (volume 15). Together with the fastest Split Iguana (for the low number pax runs) you can cover a lot of space.

When using my M3s to get that extra boost.

Safe in Pirate sectors since there are no police checking my inventory. In other spaces, they sit in my TS docked on my personal TL Elephant, using the Transporter to Freight Beam when necessary.

Not only worthy but also profitable. You will have lots of fun when hunting spaceflies, but you must be pacient in finding them, look for nebulas and sectors rich in asteroids; this is safe only in split and anarchic sectors. You can sell spaceflies to the pirates, or to some split factories (who require spacefies as sec. resources).

Or use them to power up your afterburner, one spacefly per use (instead of energy cells), and you speed will double.

I protect them

I try protecting spaceflies by killing all spacefly hunters even if it costs me one rank and a police license like it did me yesterday

Have not tried spacefly hunting yet, neither have I tried mining, two more things to do next time I want to do something new in X3 (current game day is at over 50 - what a game, 50 days and still more new things to try, yay :) )
[XTrilogy]: Holy Argnu cows! I have found it! An asteroid of pure ore - 100% - I am rich! Now, I just need to find one like that made from silicon. hmmm, where do I want to go today?
X REBIRTH? "JUST A TOURIST until X4 IS RELEASED! Because That SUPERNOVA sure went FUBAR" (Quoting T.Hawk. Read all about it at: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=353678) :x3:

Is it worth Hunting Spaceflys.
It depends on how you value these things. When I'm at that stage of the game I'd rather spend that level of cash on a Perseus with 3 APSGs and a strafe drive. At that point you can kill and cap almost anything in the game, including Xenon Ks, as long as your flying skills are up to it. The profits from assasination missions, Xenon taxis and especially Xenon Invasions are way higher than anything you'll make searching for spaceflies, and I think combat is more fun too!

But it depends on what you want to do, there's loads of different ways to make money and the issue is what you find most fun, and what's fun even just to try out. I found spacefly collecting to be a bit dull when I tried it. I only ever seemed to find the little blighters when I was flying past a shipyard or an M1, which is a very bad time to let rip with your disruptors!

But in X2 or X3 there's not really a "right" or "wrong" way to make money, there's just the way you decide to do it. Well, unless you lose money then I guess that's a wrong way! :P

 well I don't disagree with you there Vacuity would be a little dodgy to say the least.
I tend to come across them alot aspecialy around sectors heavily populated with astriods, well yes you might say my olde mates the pirates tend to like to build there homes here to, so now then I thought what a lovely Idea. Oh shit "shields critical ARR! these bloody nebulas,
Hmmm! what a lovely place to lay a mine field He! He! Just think a little Mozzy up the arse of the next big Dozzy Pirate TS to pass by that'll do the trick those idiots will chase you anywere.
Yer Squash mines are no prob with all my big shields but without them now that could be a differant story.
See what being a billioner dose to you just gives you all these crazy ideas of new ways to kill things He!He!He!
Arr well no one around at present better get back to the reaper (Elephant TL) and load up with a few Hornets to take out these nice big ore diods for my mozzy Fab there getting a little low I thinks.
While the reapers scavengers are collecting the ore I'll just nip over to the pirate base and see if I can drum up a bit of interest there
I'll not distroy it tho can always hack it later and start again :fg:
Well you don't think I buy ships to run my Empire did you :skull:
All those stupid races think good old julian is such a nice squeaky clean boy He! He! if they could only see what was going on inside the hanger bay of the Reaper.
Let me enlighten you.
Well first there's the 4 work horses
Reaper Scavenger Alpha,Bravo,Charle & Delta
4 Refitted Pirate TS's equiped with Ore Collectors & Special Commands.
Well I think you know what they do.
Then there's the Reapers Slave pit.
Battered old Pirate TS which happened to come in with a cargo life support system on board. So what a nice place to put all my captured pilots I thought :fg: Curently houseing 164 at last count.
Next come The Hideout Loaded full of all the nice illegal booty my scavengers bring in
Another Refitted Pirate TS.
Well thats the dodgy dealing stores dealt with now comes the tools of the trade.
By far my favorites are what I call my Yard Dogs ( refitted Khaak M3 fighters all loaded with Bata Kyon Emitters) Home based to The Reaper for TL defence of course anything dares to come near my TL and these babys savage them hence why I call them my yard dogs
Right Now My fighter A reffited Nova which I captured accidently on a Xenon invasion Mission. Well you know friendly fire can always happen in the heat of battle :fg:
Well thats about it for my rag tag team that makes me a small fortune, well apart from my fleet of 18 UT's running arround making millions for me, and by the way all those are Pirate TS's. Yes I know what your going to say there holds are to small but believe me they still make a big profit.
My account at the moment stands at over 200 million.
Now the rest of my empire at the moment stands at just 14 stations and the only ships I have actually bought to date are 2 TL's and 2 Odysseus M2's.
As you my have gathered by now my goal in this game is to build a huge empire soley run on ships captured by yours truely and so far I havent dune to bad.
But so far down the line my first was by far the best.
A Bayermon I tailed to a jumpgate in my Disco and waited for his Orinoco escorts to jump before I attacked.
Well once you get one of those and fit it out with BPAC's I never looked back.
Well I hopes you like my little tail I think its time to get back and cap a few more of those Dozy Pirate ships theres this Scruffin farm sitting in my hold that needs supply ships He! He!
Happy hunting boys
