The mission where you need to tow the Hyperion...
I remember this mission from a pervious save, and all i can recall about it is the ships that come to attack me being insanely powerful and protected, and i bought 3 fully loaded Nemesis' to tow it and i lost 2!
here's my point, can i take these bad boyz out with my Python?

right, ch33rsSyndrome wrote:Oh absolutely. Just make sure you have the 'thon equipped with anti fighter weapons on all turrets. Flaks are perfect for this kind of thing and iirc the 'thon can have flaks all round.
im gonna leave my GPPC's on the front, if i just park it on it's side in front of the gate then should make quick work of 'em i hope
thanks Syndrome

This might be kinda off-topic (for this specific thread that is), but as I keep seeing threads about it...
...what the (bleep) do you need 3 Nemesis for? Granted that I've played the Bala Gi missions exactly once so maybe I was exceptionally lucky, but... when I towed the Hype back I got attacked maybe three times by maybe three pirates. Nothing dangerous unless you really really need to tow the ship back with the ruined Nemesis drifting in there... and I decided back then to first fly that thing back to the shipyard for repairs. I had no significant problem whatsoever towing the Yacht back - not with pirates that is.
So, have I been lucky or what's going on here?

My God carries a hammer.
Your God died nailed to a cross.
Any questions?

Did you not come across the manically powerful pirates with like 125MW shielding?GermanicHeathen wrote:This might be kinda off-topic (for this specific thread that is), but as I keep seeing threads about it...

if not then hat's off to you!
I took the neemy back for repairs and fully tooled it up before I towed the yacht back. I repaied the fighters in the graveyard and had them as wingmen on protect me and attack enemy. I got the nemmy a bit shot up but its fully repaired for free when u get back anyway. Lost 1 wingman but lets face it when you have the m6 your not going to fly anything else for a while so well worth it.

I can't say I've ever had much of a problem with this mission either.
I've only ever had the 3 pirates who are sitting around when you get there. I claim all the ships and move them to safety, then just attack the pirates in my LX.
After they're dead I tow the yacht out in my Centaur in peace and quiet (give or take a few squash mines).

If only i had that simple situationCarlo the Curious wrote:I can't say I've ever had much of a problem with this mission either.

Yeah same here, just got the Hyp and HQ yesterday night... While towing, I was expecting a lot of action and a sweet big space fight. Bought a Centaur to tow it, fully equipped it with guns and shields and stuff, mounted BPACs on my Ellie, had a fighter squadron waiting inside it too but......
I got attacked ONCE, by 3 falcons (the guys who tell you "hey I found it first it's mine blablabla"), I was seriously dissapointed for once that I was expecting something interesting it never came...
However I realized how bad a Centaur is, those falcons got my shields down to maybe 5% (took them on with just the Centaur, moving in a straight line since I was still towing ).
Then again, the Hyperion is such a cheat I find... It's way too powerful for such a small ship, it should be 5x bigger or something that way at least ennemies can hit you more often, because with the super-shielding and weapon mounts it's virtually unkillable (apart from big muva khaak ships)...

i never liked the Argon ships... t00 Neutral in performance and l00ksX-Tie wrote:Yeah same here, just got the Hyp and HQ yesterday night... I towed the M7 with the nemi in the state that you find it.
I had my freebi Mamba Raider escorting us so that when the 3x well sheilded falcons attacked i jumped into the mambe, had the nemi jump out the system to protect it and got on with the job of KILLING at hand.
Once they were all gone i collected my newly aquired falcon inculding 125mw shield, jumped the nemi back in and fly to the dock.
Sounds simple but it took a few attempts and with the nemi in its derelicte state it could only tow at about 5-6 so it took a long long long time when ever i died

My job isn't to DIE for my country but to make the other guy DIE for his!!!!!!!
My first attempt didn't go so well. The second attempt I set up 10 lasertowers nearby the north gate before I started the tow operation. Several hours later I was close to the towers and almost to the encounter when the power went out. So second attempt didn't go well either. Third time I made sure I saved (using salvage insurance) along the way so I don't lose hours of time. The lasertowers didn't just weaken the pirates, but actually eliminated them for me. I think I maybe lost one or two of them in the process, no big deal. So there you go. Didn't even need to use my Mamba Raider, which was the best fighter I had at the time.

i jumped my XL to grand exchange to just before entering mealstom, and guess who was there! the 3 falcans, who decided to fly stright at me.
however, after saving at the station, and i killed the sentinal, the powerplant who tells you where the hyperion is turned red. ever notice how all 3 pilots are teladi? i presume they are part of the crew of the powerplant.
what i did next was jump back to unknown sector, and into the nemmy, and fly through to mealstrom, at 34m/s it takes ages, when i was half way through the sector, i got an alert from 1 of my station, saying it was under attack, so i jumped up there, and as soon as i did that, i got an alert from those pirates, saying they want my hyperion. so i got my ships near this statoin away from the xenon and into a safe place, then jumped to north gate of mealstrom. they turned to attack me, and i took them out in my LX, then jumped back to deal with the xenon, and finally back to take care of the hyperion
fortunatly i then saved it after entering merchant heaven, because when i jumped into grand exchange, a TL followed me through and crushed my poor little(in comparison) nemmy...
also, when the falcan sentinal with 250MJ shields got down to 5% health, the pilot commed me and was starting to mention bailing, but got blasted by my hept fire. oh well.
