So a pilot and his wingman fly into a station...

Literally.

I finally encountered the less than stellar intelligence of the AI pilots. I had taken out Xenon Sector 347 a while back and the station had respawned. Being the nice galactic emperor that I was, I decided to grace the masses with my (not so great) fleet and clear the sector of any hostiles.

I fly 2 Elephants fitted with 14 Ls each and let the fighters all have a go at the station while the 2 Elephants remain parked nearby peppering the station with BPACs.

20 min. later, I read "Your L has been defeated by Xenon Station" in my logs about 7 times...bloody idiots flew straight into the thing.

Deciding that perhaps bigger ships would survive, I send in the M7 flanked by 3 M6s.

No such luck as the M7 exploded spectacularly as it rammed the station.

Suffice to say I reloaded and destroyed it the old fashioned way.

I guess my hopeful question would be if fighters or escorts can actually survive a firefight IS (or at least a non-suicidal death) against something other than a station.

On a side note, I flew into Xenon 472 and parked my LX right inside the station's "U" wings. Must have seen at least 4 Xenon fighters crash into it as well trying to find me. :p When life gives me lemons...

Nothing beats the beauty of pearly GPPCS shots flying away at a doomed Xenon station.

Sorry, i rather like some Hammerheads exploding that thing :P

Wingmen are not as good as the player, and they are better against mobile targets. Just fly an Elephant with 14 LX on board in Pirate Alley and watch the show  .

Just dont, ever, not ever.

AI controlled ships attacking stationary targets is just a recipe for a big repair and replacement bill.

If you must, tell them to kill it then jump out of sector.

It still really irks me that they cant avoid a whacking great space station. They fly full speed towards it, wait for weapons range, fire a bit, then their collision avoidance goes nuts as they realise they're only 200 feet from it and they have no way to turn in time.

the GMS kinda helps with the missile firing commands.

I find Xenon station particulary bad for AI deaths. As stated above GPPC/Hammerhead all the way.

Another good deathwish is the "Shield" formation. You get to watch wingmen fly to their deaths

I'll try that once all my LX finish building  Takes so long to build one that I cleaned out a Xenon sector by the time one finished :D

I would have gone for the OOS solution. Though last night I did take out a Xenon station in the M7 (I don't own an M2/M1 or an elephant atm). I was able to make dinner, coffee, check my email (on my laptop) chat to a few friends. Phone my parents and my girlfriend before it was done (with BHEPTS). I just made sure I moved the joystick occasionally and checked on my UT's to ensure that the game didnt log me as "inactive" for an hour and nerf my combat rank.

@ bravoman : yes building LX is slow...why not capture them ? Pretty easy with the M7. I have over 20 in a few game days. Still no capital ship too in that game. (i had 2 Raptor full of LX in the previous one... but my computer can not handle such number of objects  ).

@ luke : GPSG is lot better against large targets / big shields. Still take a while though, because even the M7 will run out of energy.

@Geek

- Unfortunately I seem to have terrible luck capturing LXs...and that I'm a masochist. I usually fly around in an LX versus the M7 as it feels too much like cheating with it. I spank the Xenon sectors so bad in the M7 it almost makes me feel sorry for them.

...Almost.

I'll try using the M7 next time the sector respawns. What loadouts do you recommend for capping with the M7? I usually have BPACs in the turrets and AHEPTs in the main guns.

I use only PAC turrets, because HEPT is more likely to destroy the target. And PAC can not miss anything flying under 200 m/s.

Of course, i have a few extra weapons (PSG/HEPT) in the cargo bay to deal with J/K/ST.
