I recently completed the bala gi's and got my yacht... wtf?!?

What battleship?!? When I pulled it up on my monitor, it was the same size as the the near lying nemisis!

I was looking forward to owning a big battleship and buying like a couple destroyers to escort it and go kill a bunch of stuff... like ka'ak and xenon and pirates. Maybe some Split, who knows :roll:

If at all it is overpower! It is fast and it can dock anywhere! With all the guns and shields it can kill things easy! Don't let size fool you it is powerful! For me it is too strong so I leave it guard my HQ :lol:

What made you think it was a battleship? It's described as a yacht, not an luxury liner!

I always thought a yacht would not be armed :? (but there is no point for an unarmed ship in that game except maybe TS/TP) . So the Hyperion is definetely overpowered with a total of 18 guns :) . That is as much as a X2 destroyer after all...

It's not that unusual for a yacht to be armed (I seem to remember from my history that there were a whole bunch of amed yachts acting as patrol boats in WW2). 18 large guns would be a slight improvement over those though :p.

If anything the Hyperion is like what was called a pocket battleship during WW2. Lower shields than a destroyer = A pocket battleships had less armour than a full battleship. Same amout of guns but with a lower class of firepower. More manuverable and with the speed. All these are similar too that class of ship and there for would be easily identifiable with them.

Running two XI missions per day in that hyperion you're looking at alot of credits in the bank. My personal hyperion, with it's two LX wingmen, is doomed to a life of stoping one Xenon Invasion after another across X.

The only thing that prevents me from using that thing as a personal ship is its incredible ugliness. Not only the model is made of two scaled up perseus stitched toghether, but the textures were scaled as well, which means they are really low def. Same goes for the new M3+ class. Nevermind, I don't use them either.

I dont know why you expected a battleship, its never been billed as one.

It was always billed as a midway between the M6 and the M2.

And it is definitely larger than an M6.

Personally, I was very disapointed in it, as its undergunned for my tastes. But I know plenty of people disagree.

I just got this and I'm very happy. I got it as early as possible, cost around 4 mill to rescue it but now I have expanded my fleet and have a decent ship to run my little empire in. Not bad for about 4 hours work.

I suppose when your running your empire in a nove you'r gonna be impressed by any upgade :D

Indeed. The XTM team nerfed it by taking away the GPSGs.

IMO it makes destroyers a bit redundant, apart from the Oddy for Kha'ak sectors.

Still, in a regular unmodded game, there isn't anything I've come across that the Hyperion couldn't kill easily.

Its for that reason I never RE it. Fleets of these things, might as well just use a "destroy target" hotkey cheat.

I stand corrected. According to the XTM ship info, it wont take GPSG.
So I didn't bother doing Bala Gi in my XTM game.

It'll mount 4 of them in the front turrets.

I don't remember if it had them all round originally, but the rear turrets only take BPSGs.

Wondering if it originally had them as main weapons? 12 X forward firing GPSG is a bit much really.

There's been no change at all to the Hyperion in XTM:

Pilot 8 guns = no PSGs
Front turret 4 guns = gPSGs
Rear turret 6 guns = bPSGs
= Killing machine

I just use the HEPTS all around on mine, my pc cant handle PSG spam. It's still a monster though!

I personally think she's an absolute beauty as well, I love that massive 'x' wing design and the strange but cool double nose thing it has. Before XTM, was probably my favourite ship in terms of looks.

it's not a maverick ship in XTM as there are many other ships between M6 and M2... it makes the whole balance better, and M6s become more like they were in X2...

I too felt it was overpowered in X3 vanilla..

I'd agree with that, I think it was overpowered in Vanilla, but then again I also feel it would have been a worthy 'reward' for those players who have been playing X3 since v1.0.

It also is, in terms of the story, supposed to be a maverick. Although I agree it fits better in XTM, I have to say that XTM is insanely hard if you start off small. I tried starting in Bankrupt Assasin, but just couldn't stand the fact that capping anything decent was essentialy impossible in the starting ship.

Its a great, great mod, but you have to be an amazing pilot/have the patience of jobe/be a masochist to start off tiny in that game.
