What is Avarice?
Hi,
I was reading the new v2.5 readme and came upon a reference to something called Avarice. What is that? I have not seen nor heard of it before. Ship? Location? Item?
Malakie

It is an unknown sector that you can buy (if your lucky).
Its near light of heart (2 sectors away).

For me the BBS mention of Avarice started around day 5-6 in game... and you can't bid untill the bidding reaches 600 mil, so to give you an idea... there's plenty mention of it on BBS, can't miss it. Once it reaches 600mil you get an option to join the bidding, also on BBS. Once you do this, you get a message everytime you're outbid or win the bidding! It seems kinda random which bid wins, but as was said before, a billion isn't too far-fetched. I paid around 700-800 myself, can't remember the exact number... pay attention to the BBS though, because once you miss it it won't come back again! god luck
Avarice (greed) is one of the seven deadly sins in the Christian Old Testament and other religous writings. Be careful what you wish for.

The only real 'benefit' is you get to see your name as the owner when you pull up the universe or sector maps. You also get to name it, but you have to choose from a very limited selection of names, so that's not such a big deal. Basically, you're paying a king's ransom for vacuum.
No, you don't get to collect taxes, because there's absolutely nothing in there except your stations. The AI doesn't build there. You do get a 'free' Teladi trading station, if you consider 600+ million credits 'free'.

Have a great idea for the current or a future game? You can post it in the [L3+] Ideas forum.

The benefit is an ego boost. It's the single most expensive thing you can buy in the game. First time you buy the sector it is a good feeling.
After you have played several different games you'll have no problem building an empire that pulls in 300M+ per day. Buying the sector is hardly a challange then.
