My Frist XI
Ive just got my first one in scale plate green only problem is that there's 2 Khack destroyers in Tharka's Ruin. Ive got an ellie, an eclipse, a nova and a pair of m5's.
1: Do i have time to get to Scale Plate green as in the mission starts as soon as i enter or will I fail it if i don't show in a given period of time.?Do I have
I'm not an ace but i can hold my own in Pirates ally in the eclipse.
2: Do i have enough assets to tackle the first XI?
Ive got 85 mil saved up (for an m2) so adding assets isn't a problem if time isn't. And Ive been saving the swag I've been picking up. So Ive got a nice collection of missiles.
thanks

The mission will start pretty much immediately, but you won't get burned if you don't show up. The best reason to show up on time is to make sure there's heads left to collect
The K's in XI missions are ridiculously unshielded (5x125 mj, IIRC.) So a good pummeling with missiles should do the trick- heck, your Eclipse could probably manage it fine with its cannons. Just watch for the K's turrets. Then there's his escorts, but they'll probably be busy elsewhere so you can usually mop up pretty well.
Watch out for any Paranids or Teladi though... they like to spew PSG's everywhere. Make sure they don't brush your wingmen by accident or your wingies will go berserk and your race rep will start to spiral unless you can curb it quick.
If your assets / fight rank (can't remember which...) are far enough along, you might get a J to fight against that will continually jump into the defending sector, unload a great deal of fighters, then jump away. This is a great way to keep the mission rolling and continue generating funds- just kill the fighters, wait for the J, let him unload, rinse and repeat til you're tired of it. ^^
Hope that helps.

Thanks had a couple of hours while i waited for a response so i said"Self WTF we are saved." (thanks goners)
1st attempt sent a M5 through Xenon sector 347 to find the north gate. Sent him high above the ecliptic to avoid the hostiles. Then i jumped to SPG in time to see the last L get toasted and a message on what a worthless.. no need to repeat the rest.
Reloaded.
2nd attempt. Went solo with the eclipse but when i jumped into sec 347 there was a swarm of M's, L's and LX's at the east gate and 2 p's about 10 k out. I go vertical and start mashing the afterburner. I swear those are the worst words ever "Proximity Alert ". A Tp jumped in right behind me and was destroyed in about ten seconds. I could see hostile fire out my right cockpit as my afterburners kicked in.
"This isn't bad" i say to myself as i pull up my sector map when the next hurdle appeared . Those Bastards (can i say bastards ) had 3 K's on the north gate. With no way to navigate through them or suicidle enough to try to take on 3K's with a M3+. I jump again, targeting the north gate. pull an 180 and I'm through the sector unscratched.
In Scale plate green i find 3L's and 4 M's attacking a SPP and a K across the sector. I target the closest M. First pass i rip off his shields and a third of his armour. he zigged when i thought he was going to zag and he got in behind me a let of a missile which tagged me. I guessing a disrupter cuz though it barely scratched my shields it did destroy one of my AHEPT's and my docking computer. The rest of the fighters went down with no more problems.
Now for the K. It had been battling a Cent and 4 m5's and by the time i got to it, it's shields had already been striped. I flew around to the K's stern looking for this sweet spot I've read about. But came in way to fast and bounced my fighter off it loosing a third of my shields again.
So i book it, waiting for the turrets to pick me to pieces. I guess a pilot that can't avoid a big ship like that is low on the threat meter cuz as i hit 3k out I received no return fire. I pull vertical again get above the K and start my strafing run. I dove down on the stern and unloaded pulling up around 500 m and then raked the length of her . 6 runs I made with no return fire.
Got credit for the all 8 kills. 6.6 mill payout and a pair of silks
That as way more fun than trading

Re: My Frist XI
1. Xenon jump in about 20 seconds after you accept the mission. Helpers jump in about 20 seconds after the Xenon. It can take a while before the helpers kill every last Xenon. Or it can be quick.dminor wrote:1: Do i have time to get to ...

2. What you face in XI depends entirely on your Combat Rank. Higher rank, more enemies.

you do not have to accept the offer if you're not in the sector where the xi will happen, you can notice it, fly to the sector and accept it there, it will be there aswell
... what is a drop of rain, compared to the storm? ... what is a thought, compared to the mind? ... our unity is full of wonder which your tiny individualism cannot even conceive ... I've heard it all before ... you're saying nothing new ... I thought I saw a rainbow ... but I guess it wasn't true ... you cannot make me listen ... I cannot make you hear ... you find your way to heaven ... I'll meet you when you're there ...

Silenced is right. That's how I always do it.
The good thing about this is that you can go to the middle of the target sector and accept the mission there. So when the mission starts you are already in the right place where the Xenon show up and can start blasting away. For this approach you need a good ship or extremely good skill since every Xenon is likely to pick you as target because you are simply the first to show up on their radar.

I like the 'dive bomb' approach with the Hammerhead. Fly at them from directly above, launch at approx. 800m, the do a 180 and get the hell out of there (blast radius for a Hammerhead is 1.2km). This should give you enough time to haul your ass out of there before it explodes, and should still hit the K/J with little problem. And what a rush! (Especially in a Falcon, slow buggers)Carlo the Curious wrote:For a K (or J) you're probably safer just above the hull on one side (preferably the side without the spikes) rather than at the back.
As stated though, Ks and Js in XIs have gimp shielding - one Hammerhead missile can take them out.

Funny how the computer knows the gates are there but wont tell you.
Even if you ask nicely.
I had'nt considered this. I didnt think this would work.
I did it the hard way.
In a fast ship not much of an issue.
The Xenon were all over the gate so aproached from the back.
By the time they spotted me it was too late.

Completed my first a couple of nights ago, great fun - 12 kills and 6.4 million earned! How big was that 'K' !?! It seemed much easier than taking on a P patrol though, they didn't seem too interested in toasting me! I'm sure they will get tougher, beats trading which is all I've really been doing.
