Wingman set up?

Post by Dahori » Fri, 14. Mar 08, 05:00

I've just got my second ship in Light of Heart.
How do I set it up as my wingman?

Thanks in advance.

if you got a m3 or m3+ and you are able to use the strafedrives, you don't need any support

5 minutes ago killed 8 novae vanguard and a centaur in my pirate nova raider...
without rockets and hull damage...

if you want wingmen, buy a bunch of cheap and fast m4 and equip them with aPACs
i pfefer the scorpion vanguard, becuz your shields will hold a crash with one of these ships, and they're fast enough to be a problem for the enemy, and they're cheap :D

Open the command console for the ship in question and scroll down. You should see an entry for wingman. Just change the option from 'no' to 'yes'.

Wingmen commands:

[shift+6] = wingmen attack my target

[shift+7] = wingmen protect me
Wanderin' the wastelands...

They're about. Check your "control" menu for the exact keys. May have been moved if you've remapped some stuff.

Atleast I think that's what you meant, GMS is the other option for support.

As Torpor says, they can be pretty silly at times but if you just use them for combat and send them elsewhere or to standby whilst you do your other stuff they will be just fine.

Ok Guys! Sorry this has taken so long. The problem with the missing wingman command has corrected itself.

I got around to finding the Toucan Hauler. When I docked at the equipment dock I noticed thoese commands were in place.

Thanks for all your help.

Whats the difference between the 'follow me' command and setting a ship to be your wingman?

Everything.

"Setting wingman" only says that the ship will receive the builtin "Wingman Hotkey Commands" (whopping two) and the "Broadcast to wingmen" commands. Wingmen do not follow you, unless you tell them to.

"Follow me" sets the commanded ship to follow a specific ship. Ship and its followers are a formation. "Follow", "Protect", and "Attack target of" ("Attack nearest" perhaps too) all create formations. Depending on the command(s) the followers run and whether you fly the lead ship, the formation behaves slightly differently when under attack.

IME it is better not to have anybody on your tail, but having formations around, which you can send to errands, is good.

Tip: Group Management System (Bonuspack) helps setting up formations, aka groups.
Group Hotkeys (Bonuspack) is much more useful way to command formation leaders than the "wingman flag".
