X3: Khaak invasion

Post by darkeye01 » Tue, 8. Apr 08, 12:21

I am a pirate, since this is the fastest way to earn cash in the beginning. This morning I was wandering around Great Trench, searching for some Boron military crafts to capture, when suddenly a whole Khaak fleet warped in: 2 clusters, one Carrier and one Destroyer came from nowhere. Since there were hardly any patrols in that sector, the Khaak started to randomly attack the stations and the merchants. I knew that the neighbour sector of Rolk's Legacy had "core" security level, so I went there, hoping that I will lure the military ships to battle the Khaak. After an hour or so, I only managed to get the entire Boron defensive fleet stationed near the jump-gate. They stopped as soon as I jumped to Great Trench. The only thing that was spawned through the gate to GT were a couple of Military M6 Hydras, which were vaporised in matters of seconds. And some pirates, dunno how, since the matching exit was swarming with military ships. Any idea how to lure the Boron Shark and Ray to follow me through the gate ? Why don't they attack the Khaak ?!

They won't ever follow you through the gate--they have their assigned sector to defend and they won't change it. You would have to install a script or mod to change this behaviour.

You will need a capital ship.

When you can afford/buy one, get a Split Python and then draw the Khaak destroyers in behind you. Once they are behind you, you can keep just out of their range while your rear guns wipe them out.
What intriguing weapons and shields will you use to protect your trade ships and sectors from the Khaak when your not home? unless you can afford capital ships *and luck* its all for nothing, NOTHING! Mwaahhhhahaha
*(amendment for TC since all the good strategy and planning is no longer enough, you also need luck)*

I think LV's RRF(Race Response Fleets) is exactly the script you're looking for :D.

Is there any sort of set time before these Khaak invasions which I've read a lot about start happening ? I've been steadily building up my empire, and have completed the plot, but I don't think I'm anywhere near ready to deal with Khaak destroyers myself, so this kind of thread makes me a little nervous !

I don't think you get any grace period. I started a new game recently and found a major invasion in Treasure Chest while I was still mapping the universe. 3 destroyers, 6 fighters, 52 scouts. They stayed there at least 3 days.
This is only a virtual reality.

The Kha'ak invade a couple of sectors pretty much as soon as the game starts (X3). If you haven't met them yet then don't worry about it much - they're probably either already dead or in a sector you haven't discovered yet.

Generally the fighters get cleared out quite early on, and there are several ways to deal with the capital ships when they're stripped of their escorts, e.g.
- M3 with mass drivers and wasps or drones (sneak in and hide in the back).
- bunch of laser towers (get the capital to follow you around just inside LT range).
- M6 with typhoons (or any kind of big missile if you're far enough away and don't mind exploiting).
- TL with PPC in the rear turret (while running away - PPCs outrange kyons).
- any kind of capital (just kill it).

In addition to using a capital ship there are two other ways to dispatch Khaak invasion:

1) Use Elephant or Dragon with A/BPPC on the rear turret.
2) Use CIGS layout. They overshot GKYONS by just a little bit and it takes a LOT of time but I've done this in the Split M3+ once. Should be doable in plain Mamba variety that can mount CIGS.

People claim being able to get into the dead spot of the Khaak capitals and MD its hull while staying there. I have never tried this.

Second approach should work for a pirate dude with no rep with any of the races: both the ship and the guns are available for free if you do not mind using guides to find the free stuff.

APPCs are not useful for this...they don't outrange Kyons like BPPCs do, so the Kha'ak ship will be able to shoot at you just fine while you're using them.

It is possible but you need to be a skillful pilot. I tried it but my fine control isn't that good using a keyboard. But I did manage to get the hull of a Destroyer down to about 50% in a minute or so with a Nova Van. with 8 MD on the front and 100 MD in the freight bay.

This only works on M2 though as the "cubby" on the back of an M1 isn't big enough to get inside and out of the firing arc of the Kyons.

Most people who try this use drones or mosquito missiles as "cover" to get close in to the M2 and distract it. I used 30 drones.

:O one invasion after another!

(v2.5 btw)
jesus!!
ive just come accross these khaak invasions! :S my first game was completely clear of them.. only saw the odd cluster and some interceptors every so often.
now the story gets interesting! just started up a new game on normal with the story on (X3) and have been playing a day or so (still in my buster).... i didnt get to the second mission just played to amass credits...when a bloody massive khaak invasion comes in dead centre of argon prime!! and because im an idiot, i didnt save it to watch the spectacle of it and get pictures!.... the invasion toook forever n was whittled down to only a large handfull of fighters and the destroyers and carriers. the Argon One almost didnt get a chance to retreat but i thought id go in and maybe cap a couple of loose khaak fighters or scouts... n got completely whipped by a mass of khaak that sneaked up on me!

i only had n autosave from before the invasion so i carried on with that thinking itd happen again.. but didnt... so i got on with the game untill the bloody khaak invaded Elena's Fortune!! not as massive but there were:
2 destroyers
1 carrier
around 9 or 10 clusters
the place was swarming with them as i watched from the gate and got a savegame in a station a little way from them at the time!
they took out everything apart from the trading station... argon corvettes were coming one by one thru the gates and being carved up.... n when i thought the ships wouldnt get any larger the argons sent a destroyer thru which i thought might make an impression.. but no!! only got a little way past the gate n was taken out!!

(ive found out getting into the belly of the khaak destroyer is fun! but when it has any mates they're kyon beams go thru their hull and damage you! :( surely thats not on! a lil tip is using seta to whip around the destroyer or cruiser. dunno why it works but it does!)

im thinking that if im actually gonna make an empire that doesnt have a chance of being totally screwed over by a random khaak invasion im gonna have to have like 5 or 6 destroyers in each sector... but thats sound like extreme overkill! and not to mention unbelievabily expensive!

is there another way?

Hi Mr G,
you could try this script it allows you to add more shield to your stations/Complexs giving them more "survivability" until you can bring your fleet to bear or RRF responds if you're running it.

I play the XTM mod most of the time and use both of these as the XTM universe is a way more dangerous place :)

Good luck with protecting that empire

Kevso :)
