IA fighters + Ion disruptor => Safe ?

Hi,

I am planning to use some nova equiped with 2 AHEPT guns, 1 ID (Ion disruptor) and 1 AHEPT turret for escort task. This fighters will be controlled by the IA. I am using X3 2.5.

Is it safe to equipe IA controlled ships with ID guns regarding friendly fire ? Will thez stop fire in case of friendly fire ? Will they continue to fire with only the other guns ?

No, it is not safe to do this. AI controlled ships will always fire the last set of guns you selected for them, and furthermore, it's pretty much impossible to tell when you're going to get a friendly fire incident with an IonD anyway, because they pretty much just hit the nearest ship regardless of what direction the firing ship is facing! Given these ships are your wingmen they'll be hitting you with the IDs more often than they hit the enemy...

Fit the Novas with APACs/BPACs, AHEPTS are just to slow for in sector fighting and you'l find your wingmen missing too much. Also fit them with lots of fast missiles and set the firing solution to a high percentage.

Personally I tend to avoid using wingmen as they're very unreliable in most normal circumstances. Unless you wan't to invade pirate alley or xenon sectors you really don't need any escorts.

one comment on AI fighting, use fight command MK3, on M3(+) (only used on the last one), then they will fight much, much better. (though, price tag=1M + a script to instal)

as for the equipment, use pac, they will hit something, even putting 2 ire's on it might be of use if they aren't hitting a thing.

As for wingman, I only use the real wingman command for group leaders to easily give my orders. And escorts aren't that useful ( only time I used them was to clean pirate groups in an over crowded pirate lane in XTM, 3* LX+ FMK3 and myself in a hyperion, was just a bit lazy)

Missile wise arm them with Wasps. Abundant and cheap, and won't get our wingman killed if they get shot as he's launching them.

What they will do tho is help nibble away at enemies and also confuse the hell out of any turrets they may have which will help your wingmen avoid damage.
