Well, Ive figured out the TShips file pretty well, Ive figured out how to
add turrets, 18 Guns to M1's etc (but havent figured out the
correct settings for the guns, I believe gun placement or location
in defined in the TShips file, as in exactly were on the body of the
ship the gun is located...still working on it)

Anyway My experipment is to see what all can be changed and
modified with the T*.* files, as a test Ive created...

The Shadowtech Titan

The Shadowtech Titan is a cross between the Argon Titan and a TL Frieghter, It looks just like the Argon Titan except:

1. Allows docking of Any/All TP's, TS's, M3's, M4's, and M5's (Still only 4 Ships Total) :o
2. Can Mine Astroids (Can equipt all apropreate gear as well as use it)
4. Can Do the job of a TL, can purchas and transport Stations
5. Improved acceleration, speed and turnning.
6. Doesnt Modify or change the Argon Titan or any other Ship in Game
in any way :wink:

Still working on the Destroyer/Carrier/TL Hybrid...A 18 Gun
Destroyer capable of carrying 30 ships (TP's and TS's included)
and able to transport stations, wont modify any in game ships,
not sure its possible yet though. Have to learn more about the
script editor, or wait for documentation (Ive actually compleated it,
just a tiny undocking problem :( )

Yup, Thats pretty much all it is. The ability to carry a manta is cool
cause it can be your XL frieght transporter, The TL station transporter
is a side affect of allowing TP's and TS's to dock on it.

Thanks to be honest, I really didnt intent to make it so a Argon
Titan could transport stations or mine, I wanted the option of being
able to dock TP's and TS's to it, but the only way to do it was to fool
the game in makeing it think it was a TL, thats the only way I could
get TP's and TS's to dock, so as a side affect of this, it inherited the
other TL abilitys, I think Ill set the Cargosize so you have enough
room to install all your guns, carry 1500 energy crystals, 100
Hornet missles, your shields and other upgrades, and just
enough room to carry 1 station, Ill have to check how much
room the bigest
factory takes (unless someone here already knows) it is kinda
cool to carry a Manta (as I mentioned above) to be your e-cell/XL
Cargo fetcher. Not spending to much time on this though as it was
just a test/steping stone to what Im really trying to do. Look at it this
way if you think this is Uber carrying stations, that big Pen!s Head
on the front of the Titan has to be used for something
constructive right? :gruebel:

I don't care if it's a super ship or not....sounds sweet to me! :D
Especially if you could change the textures and make it black...hehehehe...I know I know...I'm dreaming out loud again.

Ok for those of you who REALLY want this heres the down and dirty
way to have it now (Yes you have to have your game unpacked)
mabet latter Ill give it its own name and make a proper Mod.
But in the meantime:

Decompress your TShips file, get ride of the Tships.pck, Open the TShips.TXT and Copy this info from here:

Then find this info in the Tships.txt:

And replace it with the first set of info, use script editor to cheat/buy
what ever...to get it. The ship is called Xenon I, This is the Xenon TL
that wasnt used in the game so It wont affect anything. Then
re-name to "Shadowtech Titan" or whatever.

Leave it as is or change what you dont like, If you dont want to transport
stations, make the cargo space smaller.
If you dont want to mine with it...Don't :wink:

I tried it. Looks nice. Smart idea to replace the xenon I, :wink:
I wonder if it is possible just to add a new ship. The first line of the TShips.text read: 14;114. I don't know what the 14 stands for but the file has 114 lines after the first line. Maybe it is possible just to add a new ship and change 114 to 115. Although my guess is that this doesn't work. After all your modified Titan still shows as Xenon I in the script editor and on the map.
I wonder if it is possible to change the written description of the ship or even replace the voice description to the normal Titan description. Did you have any success modifying this?

I wonder if there isn't a better way of installing those mods than manually depacking all those files and adding a line. I am not a programmer myself but maybe someone would like to program some kind of install routine that automatically depacks the neccessary files, replaces the the old unpacked file with the new modded version and packs all the stuff again.
I am afraid many people will never be able to enjoy those modds cause they can't figure out how to do it manually.

Ive wondered that too, but theres more to the line numbers, for
example I can only get TS's and TP's to dock on a M2 if I move it
to a line where a TL once resided, There has to be somewhere else
that defines exactly what is allowd on what line, I imagine it would
be easy to add a M3, M4, or M5, but anything that allows ships to
dock on it, you would have to find where that information is stored,
as noted above, you can raise the number of ships allowed to dock,
but, only the true number will be allowed to undock, I know turret
data is stored both in the TShips file and in the .BOB file, same with
gun data, so I assume dock ship data may be stored there as well,
also mabey the .exe has stored info as well as to what lines allow
what.

One more note, Its still called the Xenon I but that is easly changed
by serching in the 440001.xml file and serching for 3661, and changeing
it to the ship name you want, also serching for Xenon I, just replace
each instance with desired name, I renamed it the Shadowtech
Destroyer in my game, I also got rid of the "Your" thats always
infront of the new ship you buy, I also renamed all the unknown
sectors as well.

***EDIT***
I think that the 440001.xml file also determines what ship line gets what.
still trying to decifer it, If I can, Ill be able to add entirely new ships.

Cool, I will change the xml file. Do you know which value in the tships.text reperesents the ship model. F. ex. I would like to exchange the Titan model for the Collossus model.

I assume that somewhere in some file the written ship descriptions must be stored. Once someone figures that out, changing the description of a ship should be a piece of cake. Changing the voice description of a ship is more difficult unless you find the girl whose voice is heard and convince hear of recording a new message. :wink:

Changeing descriptions is easy, thats in the 440001.xml as well, serch
for the ship ID. As far as only changeing the ship model, it doesnt
work that way, youll have to move all the data to the TL line. If you
only change the model, and not anything else, first, if you already
have the ship in a save game, notheing will change, second you have
to create a new ship with script editor. But it'll be unflyable cause all
the titan data wont match the M1 BOB data, you wont gain any
turrets or anything. You can move all the M1 data
to replace all the Titan data thats on the TL line, but not sure why
you would want to do that since youll go from docking 130 ships to
only 30. and gain notheing else.

If you consider the internal volume difference between, say, a Centaur and a Titan, the Titan is seriously under-weaponed. The Titan has several hundred times the space inside that a Centaur has, and only 4 times the weaponry.

When I think of capital ships, I think of the David Weber (Honor Harrington series) type that are bristling with broadside armaments.

I haven't a clue what they are using the interior space for in a Titan, but it's certainly not for anything that makes it a better warship. I could take a small core, bolt 30 or so Centaurs to the outside, and have a much smaller ship that completely outclasses a Titan.

So, I like the idea of creating real capital ships. Ones that are bristling with weapons - where it takes not 4 or 5 M3's to take it out, but a hundred or more.

With a little effort, you could make a pretty interesting simulation of a major engagement. X2 could grow to be a strategic space battle simulator. :) Of course, not until I get twice the CPU power that I now have.
