X3:TC - Point Singlarity Projector?
Yesterday before I went to bed I just looked through all the sectors that I had sats in to see if it was quiet. Then I see a Xenon K with escorts on its way to Omicron Lyrae. There's a Argon Colossus there, and M6 and a few assorted M5,M4,M3's.
I figured I'd give them a hand before I went to bed. With one eye half shut I jumped there in my Q and opened fire on the K from behind while the Colossus had it occupied from the front. This obviously upset the K, because his movements became erratic.
With the two of us pounding the K (I love that the Q can use PPCs) it went down fairly fast, and the fighters where just a mop up.
In the debris I find a lot of weapons, and this time 7 Point Singularity Projectors. Are they any good?
PS. Are the forum behaving strange today? Before I went to bed I could not connect. And when I post today every other time I get "Invalid Session. Please resubmit form" and some times it takes forever to connect to the forums.

PSPs are good if you have a Terran cap ship; you can also charge them up to deal massive one-shot damage because of their slow rate of fire. However, in a straight AI-controlled damage per second contest they're the weakest capital class guns by far.
As for the forum problems, yes, it's happening to everyone, and yes, it's been reported to the people who have the power to fix it.

PSP are completely worthless - unless you use Xenon/Terran ships.
Then they are in the same league as PPC.
Better or worse? That depends on who you ask and if you or the AI use it.
And yes, the forum is having it's period today.

I personally find PSP's to be very fearsome weapons. Why? They do massive alpha damage. Sure their DOT is lower than PPC's when used by the AI, but it only takes one (or one salvo) to put some serious hurtin on your ship.
And charged up they are simply devastating. I find charged PSP's to be the perfect station-killer.

Well, the problem is that nobody needs a station killer.
Once you have defeated the fleet you can kill the stations any way you like.
The charging up business is - like strafing - just another perk for the playership. Not like that would be needed. =)

I find charging up is quite useful for the initial shots as you're coming into range - if you've got nothing better to do, it's definately an advantage to have 2 or 3 charged shots on the way before the turret AI would even open fire on its own.
It seems somewhat more efficient when you're being followed by swarms of M6s, as well.
