EMPCs vs Matter/antimatter warheads
I just don't see what the big deal is with the matter/antimatter launcher, apart from the increased range, they do just about as much damage as EMPCs when you take into account RoF AND you have to find yourself some ammo to go with it (which always seems too rare). What do you guys think?
err....M/AM does nearly twice the damage as EMPC. It's a solid weapon for shooting up M6 and above ships.
Ammo hasn't been much of a problem to find in my game. Aldrin seems to always have 500+ rounds waiting around in the various stations and another 1000+ to be had in the Sol system at any one time. Takes awhile to use up that many antimatter ammo crates.

How are you taking RoF into account? If you're looking in the in-game Encyclopaedia you should bear in mind that the figures for damage given there are PER SECOND even though it doesn't explicitly say so, so the RoF is irrelevant in that case.Barnsy wrote:I just don't see what the big deal is with the matter/antimatter launcher, apart from the increased range, they do just about as much damage as EMPCs when you take into account RoF

So all hull and shield damage stated in in-game Encyclopedia there are not for a single shot but per second?pjknibbs wrote:How are you taking RoF into account? Re: EMPCs vs Matter/antimatter warheads
2000 shield damage per shot and 157 shots per second would mean 3.14GJ of shield damage per second per EMPC. Unless you regulaly have Rapiers knocking off M2s then I'd say it's per-second.Terradoct wrote:So all hull and shield damage stated in in-game Encyclopedia there are not for a single shot but per second?pjknibbs wrote:How are you taking RoF into account? Indeed - takes into account rate of fire.So all hull and shield damage stated in in-game Encyclopedia there are not for a single shot but per second?
The MAM does do twice the damage from my little book of stats but the shots are slower - sounds very like a capital ship focused weapon rather than an anti-fighter one.

That's 157 shots per minute, not per second, and an EMPC does 5k shield damage according to the Encyclopaedia--2k is the hull damage!NeverSnake wrote: 2000 shield damage per shot and 157 shots per second
@ Terradoct: Yes, all values given in the in-game Encyclopaedia are per second. It's pretty easy to test this--get a fast firing weapon (Energy Bolt Chainguns do well for this with their 300+ shots per minute) and see how much damage they do when you shoot at something! You'll find it's a lot less than you'd get if the Encyclopaedia value were per shot.

Well I messed those values up, but as you say it's pretty obvious with some weapons that they must be per-second.pjknibbs wrote:That's 157 shots per minute, not per second, and an EMPC does 5k shield damage according to the Encyclopaedia--2k is the hull damage!NeverSnake wrote: 2000 shield damage per shot and 157 shots per second
EDIT: Actually, there are two exceptions to the rule, the PBG and PSG damage is not shown correctly in the encyclopedia as it depends on how big the ship is and how much area the weapon hits.
