Manually controlling multiple ships and Expanding on Remote Guided Missiles
I searched around a bit and couldn't find any topics on this so I thought I'd just dive right in. I like combat. Combat is fun. What makes combat even more fun is having wingmen to help you in combat. Especially when up against much stronger opponants. One of the strategies I have started using is the classic "kite". One person distracts the enemy while the other whacks on it. Switch when necessary. This tactic works surprisingly well when you have a Transporter extension installed on one of your ships. To this affect I usually have my wingman in one of my moniters up in the corner. This is where things start to get juicy.
I never used the moniters much, Always thought they were just a waste of space. However I stumbled apon something that doesn't really seem to be talked about much. This is the fact that you can manually control friendly units through the moniter. This includes everything from flying around to shooting and even switching to other views including the turrets. This little trick has Dramatically increased my ability to kite ships. Switching on the fly from manual to automatic via commands. Pressing F3 to increase the monitor size makes this much much easier.
The only problem with this is that manual control over the ships only seems to work if you are not viewing a turret. If you have the moniter in turret view and switch off and want to regain control of the ship remotely, you have to switch views in the moniter until you are either cockpit or external. click off the moniter. and click back on it. Then you can switch back to a turret to control it. Another problem with the moniter is that it is very very liberal when it comes to selecting targets. Target radius seems to be 3x larger than the object itself. You also don't get the benifit of the Target tracking or Laser guidence. So combat can be a bit cumbersome if you try to go all out.
Something else I want to get into is the Remote Guided Missile. From what I understand, this was an underdeveloped feature of the game that the devs couldn't quite get working to add in the main game. As such, you cant seem to find them anywhere unless the occasional pirate drops one as loot.
This brings me to the two points of the topic. Is the above feature something intended but never really developed? and Would improving on the first feature allow for weapons like the RGM to be used?

Did you notice you can enlarge the camera window with the little arrow in the lower right corner?MorphingJar wrote:Another problem with the moniter is that it is very very liberal when it comes to selecting targets. It was actually largely scaled down in reunion, X2 let you configure the location and number of monitors. I don't know what the control was like then though, as I only had a small monitor at the time.MorphingJar wrote:This brings me to the two points of the topic. Yer If I recall in the X2 days there was I thread dedicated to this were players wanted to use multiple monitors so they could track the games monitors to other monitors attached to the graphics cards.
Now as technoligy has advanced and I can now have upto 4 monitors running of my graphics card this wouldn't of been a bad idea.
Playing X3TC using 3 monitors would be so cool main screen your ship left monitor remote ship 1 right monitor remote ship 2

Gob, I haven't used it much, but here's how you do it:
1. Highlight the remote ship you want to control.
2. Press Shift-1 or Shift-2 (default) to bring it up on one of the monitors.
3. Click inside the monitor, you'll notice the name of the ship above the monitor turns orange (from white).
4. Optionally you can expand the monitor by clicking on the arrow in the bottom corner.
You can now press Shift-C to bring up the command console for the target ship, increase/decrease speed, or switch to Classic or Mouse-Follow mode to steer the ship just as if you were sitting in it.
