Death by repair laser

Post by philip_hughes » Mon, 2. Feb 09, 06:10

Accepted an escort mission, cleared away the baddies but a freighter got pretty badly damaged. It was so slow and an easy target for any future ships, so I decided to provide a free repair service.

Jumped out of my ship and fired up the repair laser, only to be met by sobs and pleading to spare his wretched life. *shrug*

back into my ship. All of the freighters bar that one made it home. I hope he is happy that I stopped shooting him.
Split now give me death? Nah. Just give me your ship.

Even though the repair laser fixes the hull, the game treats the beam as 'hostile intent'. It kinda sucks, it took me a few go's to work that one out. Ah well, I guess we can't be good Samaritans in this game...

As the Teladi say, nothing in this world or any other is free.

That gives me an idea, script into a ship that takes 8 forward guns, 4 PRG and 4 repair lasers. Then pick a target, strip his shields damage him to 80% and then repair him till he bails. Premium hull! Bonus!.

Yep. I am one of those unshaven guys with a dirty rag who hangs out at the jumpgate offering to clean the windscreen (spacescreen?).

You'd be a whole lot happier if those people stopped you at traffic lights and fixed your engine, or took care of all your rust!! Well actually, people would probably say, no thanks!
My favourite memory of the X series was babysitting that TL across half the universe in XTension and finally arriving in Getsu Fune to be gifted the TL! I called her Big Bad Orca...

Well, imagine the price tag of traffic light mechanics. Not only would you get billed the service, parts, you'd probably also end up with delivery and rush priority fees.

Now, remember how expensive ship repairs are in the X universe?... the guy was probably looking at poverty if he let you finish.

I think the reason that it treats it as a hostile weapon, is that it is a weapon.....juts the damage stats set to - instead of +.....so it damages the hull in the opposite way :P

You were deleting the speed holes in his ride... You expect him to be happy about it?
