Are M8's boardable or not?

Post by Hieronymos » Wed, 11. Feb 09, 08:37

So Are M8's boardable or not? Manual (p.51) says yes; all the forum threads I've read say no.

Anybody know for sure?

And if this forum thread ALSO says no, will you believe it? Seems unlikely if you don't believe all the ones you've already read that say you can't board an M8! :-)

To my mind the rules are simple:

If the ship bails under fire - it cannot be boarded.

If the ship can be boarded - it will not bail under fire.

Since I have had several M8's bail under fire - then the M8 cannot be boarded.

I think there's one exception for that rule. I've heard Xenon Ps bail very seldomly, and being an M6 it should be boardable too...

Had several M8's bail on me as well, they are a good source of early game income since they bail so easily.

So No they can't be boarded

The simple rule is that M8 are not "little ship" but "big ship" just like the M6. They can't land on carriers and all that.
The logical conclusion is that, just like every other "little ship", they are not boardable. Well, at least the X3 kind of logic.

Maybe we need a poll to prove it?

Er, you're contradicting yourself there, Gazz...first you say that M8s are bigships like M6s, then you say it logically follows that they can't be boarded because they're "little ships" not big ones...

Irrespective of what the manual says, when you try it in game it tells you very specifically that you can't board it.

However they do bail when shot at as mentioned above.

Nonono! I said there were like little ships in that regard. =)

It's like with cats.
Matter of fact, there are no cats with 2 tails, we know that much.
Now a cat certainly has one more tail than no cat so the logical conclusion would be that cats must have 3 tails.

So M8 is counted as bailable small ship. Then I wonder why it can't land in a carrier.

M8's bail when fired upon, so there's no need to board them. (Which would be harder.)
They often spawned in early station defence missions, from which i captured about four.
As for their relatively small size, bailing and not being able to land on carriers - TS's also bail and can't land on a carrier.

TS and TP ships are also "bailable small ships", but they can't dock at carriers either!

what does the lingo mean when "a ship bails" You mean the ship flees, or the pilot bails by ejecting?????

When a pilot ejects.

It comes from "bailing out".

Nice bit of logic and word twisting there...

M8s are not boardable and their description is only slightly biggar than M3s .As for them not being able to dock on carriers hopefully that will be addressed in V2.0 giving carriers some teeth and a much needed role to the under utilised M8 in the game
