Arr! the deadly little M8 bombers.
Seems stange I now that these ships are basically a refitted M3+ yet they can't dock with your carriers.
But I guess that the devs thought that giving carriers bomber bays would be like giving you a win win button.
But the trick with these things is to use them as hit and run attack vessals by jumping them in and flanking the enemy fleet.
I have Vipers stabled at my EQ docks loaded with Tomahawks which I use now and again when clearing out Xenon sectors.
All it takes is one Barrage of Tomahawks to get thou and it spells instant death for any capital ship.
So using M8's as escorts or backup for your M7M and this spells disaster for any enemy

The Terran Claymore is better than any Commonwealth bomber - mid speed, better shielding, more cargo space and the Phantom missile it carries is better than the Tommahawk - faster, more powerful and best of all uses only 1 unit of cargo space - the tommahawk uses 2 - this and the higher cargo capacity of the Claymore are very important given the above point that the M8 has to jump in itself and therefore needs to carry e-cells for jumping.Spaceweed Adict wrote:Arr! the deadly little M8 bombers.

I know people moan that the phantom is hard to get hold of - but just stick a ship at the fab and keep buying them while you are busy doing the Hub Mission etc. - I have 3 Claymores and more than 900 Phantom missiles.

Hmm very interesting point quarkian37 I haven't really bothered with Terran ships as you said there a pain to equip as you cannot produce your own Missiles for them you have to buy them from the Terrans but believe me the Viper can carry enough firepower to clear out a sector of any Capital ships & stations for that matter and carry sufficiant energy for the trip. The Terran Claymore is better than any Commonwealth bomber - mid speed, better shielding, more cargo space and the Phantom missile it carries is better than the Tommahawk - faster, more powerful and best of all uses only 1 unit of cargo space - the tommahawk uses 2 - this and the higher cargo capacity of the Claymore are very important given the above point that the M8 has to jump in itself and therefore needs to carry e-cells for jumping.

And the main reason I use them is becouse I produce my own missiles to equip them which costs nothing and that go's for Flails and Hammer torpedo's also.

Capital ships really need external docking as standard. The ability to carry a very small number of M6s, TPs, TS' and M8s would not break the game, but open up so many options, especially for player controlled ships.
Hell, I would pay very good (in game) money to have the option to buy external docking ports as a high-end upgrade for my capital ships.

In the mod's description no M8 ships are mentioned.ediko wrote:Here you go http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=228147
Edit: fud has a mod that has external docking bays for M8 ships, but on most ships just one slot and some have two. Would be nice to have a carrier for M8 ships. Couldn't find anything that comes close to that.

Thanks for your answer, though.
I use the Beamdock script to beam a M8 onto my M1. When in need, I beam the M8 off, tell it to launch a missile barrage and beam it back in. It's like deploying a missile-platform so I don't really use it exactly as a bomber, but it gets the job done .
