Ghoul missiles

Post by 1muvwndr » Thu, 12. Feb 09, 07:57

Were they meant to be this crappy? The price is 33k/piece, 6,5k damage, less than 6km range and a breaathtaking speed of 44 m/s. Yep, 44 m/s. You can ourun them in your spacesuit.

All of that is correct, except the 44m/s. It's supposed to be 440m/s. It's the Terran equivalent of the Flail Barrage (yes, it is swarm, which means you multiply the damage by 8).

And if you don't believe me, compare the two (just treat the speed as 10x greater) and you'll notice that the Ghoul is just slightly better than the Flail, as most Terran tech is.

Also forgot to mention, is that range is determined by lifetime multiplied by speed. So the range increases significantly once you use the correct speed.

OK, that makes sense :) I hope they'll fix it in 2.0.
Another weird missile: the Spectre. It should be the Hornet's counterpart but it's range of 5,7km makes it good only for blasting roids. Again, it's a bug or it's meant to be like this?

I captured a Skirnir the other day and it had a few "shadow Missiles" remaining. Now they look quite good sector clearing missiles.

I'd be willing to hazard a guess that the same thing has happened, never even noticed it in my game. They probably just left a 0 off the end. Only thing is, then the Hornet would have an effective range of 31.248km, while the Spectre would have a range of 57km. Again, this could just be the superior Terran tech, or maybe not everything is quite right.

I think you should log a bug report about those missles.

I got a Skirinr and tried to fire some Ghouls. It seems that the missile speed indeed is 45 m/s. The slowest thing in the whole universe, no use for it whatsoever. Shadow on the other hand really kicks some mayor ass.

ghoul is fixed already, I found it VERY effective against fighters. problem is that my universe contains only one ghoul factory (in Venus sector) and after finishing the Aldrin plot the reward shipyard in TUS1 could not make the ghoul factory either. if the only remaining factory disappears I am out of ghouls, oh crap...

Given it's eighteen months since this thread was last active I think it's unsurprising it's been fixed...and this is why we ask you don't resurrect ancient threads, because anyone reading this and not noticing the date will think there's still an issue!
