I think I poked a hornets' nest
For some reason I'm getting a LOT of pirate activity all of a sudden... I'm in the middle of a big furball somewhere and when the dust clears I check my message log to see if anything bad has happened. Oooooh boy.
Seems a Brig with a sizeable escort has wandered through from Brennan's Triumph - wiped out the Boreas I had there. Then cruised through into Elana's Fortune and annihilated the Deimos there before it even got to launch its fighter wing (6 Eclipses) and took out the Heavy Centaur as well before falling foul of my Pheonix and the Argon defence forces.
So, I buy another couple of Boreas'; one to park in Farnham's Legend and another to patrol Split Fire -> Brennan's. I take a look at Farnham's to see if there's anything going on (I have AdvSats just about everywhere)... there's ANOTHER Brigantine with Blastclaws in escort.
Since I'm a little low on defences at this point, I jump in and Firestorm/Typhoon/Tornado the hell out of the Brig and it's escort; breathe a sigh of relief and continue jumping my Boreas' from eq dock to eq dock to get their software upgrades before finally jumping them to my main military warehousing sector.
By the time I've got one in Farnham's and I've just jumped the other into Split Fire there's yet another Brigatine attack wing in Brennan's... this time I jump in with my Cobra (20 marines, nearly all 5* everything). Much missile spammage and I've capped this Brig.
So I decide to keep this one and add it to the Boreas patrol but before I've even got it to Home of Light there's yet ANOTHER Brigantine attack fleet heading my way through Brennan's...
I decide not to mess about with this one and unleash a rain of Firestorms and Typhoons on it from long range and then just watch it go *boom*
I dunno what I did to annoy the pirates so much, but that was 4 Brigantine attack fleets in fairly rapid succession O_o
Did something change with 2.0 to make the pirates more aggressive or is it something to so with the fact that I'm rapidly approaching "hero" combat rank?

I don't know about 2.0 but you could be very lucky/unlucky and happen to be in the exact areas where they are respawning.
Former Commanding Officer of "Hellbound Handbasket" M7 Panther light Carrier in the mighty fleet of Admiral Leo 'Steve' Kayean.NUKLEAR-SLUG wrote:A wasp can sting you and that just hurts, a hundred stings can be fatal.. and that's before you consider most wasps don't come armed with flamethrowers.
Ye-es, I wouldn't mind if it was just BT, but they always head to Elana's Fortune and since there's some good 'roids there I've got a tonne of mines and factories in that sector.mayan wrote:The common theme appears to be Brennan's Triumph.
Maybe the pirates just aren't happy about you parking in their sector without paying due homage.
The last couple of hours have seen almost as many "big" pirate mobs wandering up that way as the previous 20 DAYS (I'm on day 25)... it's the rapid jump from the odd blastclaw mob, or maybe a Galleon fleet once every few days to 4 massive invasion fleets in the space of a couple of hours that's got me.
I don't think they're spawning in Brennan's - they come up through Dana's Chance. Although Blastclaw/freighter mobs spawn in Bala-Gi's Joy and work their way down as well.I don't know about 2.0 but you could be very lucky/unlucky and happen to be in the exact areas where they are respawning.

It's just occurred to me... it MIGHT be because I took my Aggy for a test flight down Maelstrom way and blew the hell out of a couple of Brigs and a Galleon. They might be respawning in Dana's now... I'll have to drop an AdvSat there to keep an eye out (although I doubt it'll last long).
That sounds about right. If you kill them they respawn elsewhere and go wandering around. You just have to wait for them to end up somewhere harmless. Used to be what happened if you cleared out LMS Legacy - a stream of pirates pouring out of Teladi space and migrating towards Pirate bases. It's just occurred to me... it MIGHT be because I took my Aggy for a test flight down Maelstrom way and blew the hell out of a couple of Brigs and a Galleon
You could try Pirate base farming. Keep killing them until they end up a long way from Elena's Fortune. That'll cut down small ship traffic. Because it is a bit of a vicious spiral - you kill the red ones, more get upset at you. So you have to kill them. So even more are upset...

... how on earth have you managed that?
Seriously, I own 3 Brigs now; 1 as a personal M2, 1 on sector patrol and one to RE if I ever get around to getting a PHQ (25 days in and I've still not completed the hub plot). I don't know how many I've destroyed.

Try any of the following sectors if you're not "lucky" enough to have them crawl up through Brennan's.
Unknown sector south of Heaven's Assertion (where the Duke's HQ is) there's occasionally one in there.
Veil of Delusion
Or the main pirate space around Maelstrom, the 2 Unknown sectors and Gaian Star.
You also occasionally get them on assassination or sector patrol missions.
