Teladi military ships

Post by Holy Hat Jack » Thu, 7. May 09, 12:13

Bit of a noob question here, but is there such a thing as a useful Teladi military ship? Or am I missing something here?

The Gannet is a very capable M7M and the Shrike is a powerful M7. The Kestrel is the fastest buyable ship and the Kea is one of my favorite M3+ (though I'm probably the only one liking it) right after the Tonbo and Medusa Prototype (this beauty can carry Typhoons!).

Cool, cheers for that. I guess i just a bit of a speed freak I can't stand all that slow combat stuff. I'll stick with the Split ships.

All ships in the game are useful. Now whether there are better ships than others, that another question.

What would you rather have as a carrier-based fighter? Mamba Raiders with tons of speed but only 25 MJ of shielding, or Falcon Sentinels with terrible speed but 400 MJ of shielding?

If I launched 20 of each from my Carrier, I would expect most of the Falcs to come back home... not so much for the Mambas.

Not every ship was necessarily designed to be flown by the player personally. ;)

I'm still building it but my fighter wing of choice will be composed by 40 L/LX and 20 Khaak Fighters. Xenon ships with PBE strip shields like crazy while the Kyons just cut the hull like a hot knife.

Until then the Mamba Vanguards are the "official" carrier wing.

EDIT: The Solanos perform surprisingly well too.

my carrier holds 15 scimitars (125 mj shields) 10 solanos(75 mj) and 6 eclipses(200mj) And they tend to be quite cabable of taking on any opposing fighters they encounter.

Love the kea! so pretty!

On my carrier i have 1 squad (5) of interceptors (solano's) and a squadron (15) of heavy fighters (eclipses an novas)

The fast ones keep them occupied while the heavys come and smash them!

Speed dosent matter so much on a carrier as the wing spends most of their time docked anyway (therefore rely on the M1's speed!)

Although its handy to have a few fast fighters 2 give you an interception capability

Actually I get fully equipped KM3 from captured carriers spawned during corporate assassinations. Saved just prior talking to contact and then saw what spawned. If there's a carrier with KM3s in it, go and capture. If not, reload.
I know, kind of cheating but that's the only way to obtain KM3s&Kyons in vanilla game...

By the way, do you abort the mission before capturing the ship?

Sometimes the carrier is accompanying the target you have to kill and remains in-sector after you have completed the mission. Simply call in your boarding crew and you gain a carrier with a mixed hangar of fighters.

No but I tend to capture only the escorts. You just anger it a bit so that it sends out fighters. It seems that the docking of fighters overrides the jump command so if the escorting carrier has fighters outside it won't jump away if you kill the mark or abort the mission.
When capping the target ship it (and the other ships I've capped during the same mission) seem to just blow up after the mission timer expires, even if I aborted the mission. It doesn't happen always but it happens and it's annoying losing 2 M1/2s for no apparent reason. So I stick to capping just the escorts.
