Fully Maxed Out Centaur With Mass Drivers Only... Good idea or bad?

I'm not sure of the specs of ships in X3 and TC but I'm on X2 at the moment.

So 4 guns, on 3 turrets. Mass Driver ammo will need to be highly stocked which is ok as I plan on supplying that myself

Or shall I go with another M6 instead?

Lighter fighters (M4) are IMO better with Mass Drivers. Their short range makes them quite a poor choice on an M6.

I usually just stick with HEPTs in my Centaurs. They have powerpacks large enough to pour lots of fire onto enemy M6s and kill them fast. If you're not going to fly the M6 yourself, put some Ion Disrupters in it as well (turrets or mixed in with the HEPTs). They don't annoy npc fighters when its not you firing them, and they strip sheilds faster then the HEPT can on its own.

Ammo using guns are best left for Capital ships. The Mass Driver can be good in a Nova or Mamba, but otherwise its a bit of a useless weapon these days. The Gauss Cannon (hard to get in large numbers, but a good candidate for a weapon complex) is the king of ammo using guns.

Have to admit I usually threw a full set of HEPTs onto my M6, seemed to chew up pretty much anything I came across.

PRG's, EBC's and PBG's seem to be the way to go.

Get the Gunnery Crews for your M6 and a selection of guns. They will do the rest. I had both gHEPT and MD loaded into Dragon, and they mostly used the HEPTs.

Many of the X2 M6 pilots chose between Osprey and Dragon.
