X3 Reunion - Has anyone ever bought Avarice?

The sector is up for auction at 615M credits. Has anyone ever bought it?
Is there any point in buying it?

2: Well, it gives you something fun to use your money on, but actually owning it doesn't change much.

Its a pretty usefully placed sector to use as a homebase whether you own it or not. I use it in X3:TC as well.

Aaaaah - but it gets to a point in R where you want something to waste credits on. Could use something similar in TC - not that there would be a lot of point; 100 million credits is pocket change.

Yeah I tend to agree, presumably that's why they named it Avarice!

In my (long since abandonded) X3R game I had about 200M credits and was trying to get up to 600M to buy the place. It was boring though. The only way I was going to get there was by killing Ks. Got bored and went back to playing X2. In X2 right now I seem to spend most of my time killing Ks! You would have thought the Xenon would have given up by now...

I did buy the sector (renamed Redemption, would have prefered choosing the name of my sector) at the cost of 825mil due to the bidding system. Roughly two thirds of the money came from Assassination missions and XI missions. The rest came from my weapons stockpile from my time spent in Xenon sectors turning everything into scrap.

I bought it for about 700 million IIRC, most of the money came from XI missions or the enormous income I got from my complexes.

After blowing almost every credit I had recently (I still go back to R occasionally) within about half an hour I was up to 30 million credits again from my factories alone... and what I'd blown almost every credit on was yet another complex so it's a never ending spiral of rapidly increasing cash-flow

Done well it will give you the space and means to monopolise the universal trade routes.

My game melted before I could see a really good return but 4 or so days of in game time was enough to put me into the top 10 for income.

It's also a handy non-race-aligned sector to put your Space Fuel and Spaceweed complex with none of those nasty sector patrols or Pirates to interrupt your legitimate business concern or harass your customers.

Granted, it's close enough to some Pirate sectors to need a bit of defence every now and again, but I've never needed anything more than a Hyperion in it. I think a single M6 ought to be able to cope unless the Khaak drop in...

I too had a bit of a mad scramble for cash before picking it up for just 615 million credits. I'm not sure how close I was to the end of the auction when I placed my bid but I kinda felt like an eBay sniper!

I bought it for 720 million. I made almost all that by starting a trade fleet of 30 UTs fairly early on and letting them do their thing. They make a good deal of money for you.

Oh, also that was the game where I had XTM installed, and I made a healthy bit of money though piracy as well.
