do npc ships use Ion Disruptors?

Post by mrbadger » Sun, 31. May 09, 15:18

I've not seen it, but early in my game I arrived in a boron sector just as a dogfight twixt cops and pirates was ending, and there was an Ion Disruptor floating in space for me to get.

I've never seen an npc use one though, has anyone else?

That particuler pickup was a godsend at the time, because I wasn't able then to get to a place that sold them.

Yes, they do, but in my experience only very rarely. I've only ever seen the ships I was escorting for Corporate missions use them.

They use all kinds of weapons. Most irritating are MDs I think since they drain your ship's hull and you have to repair it later.

They use Mass Drivers? That does not sound healthy....

I've not seen that, but then I've been focussing more recently on capping helpess civilian ships and station building.

I rather hope I continue not to see it, tbh :)

Even Pirate Ospreys/Centaurs sometimes use MDs and IonDs. They fry your ships' equipment and damage hulls and later you have to jump from ship to ship, patch them up with repair laser and replace their stuff. It's SOOOO ANNOYING.

I once had a fight of my dozen of Asps against one such corvette. I later had all those ships at 97-99% hull. GRRR.

That's why I installered Marine repair mod and just got ADS for future carrier fun. So you don't have to look after repairing of tiny hull damage fragments all the time. It beats jumping out of your ship every time.

Mass Drivers are annoying, and are occasionally used by pirate ships in their rear turret. They're REALLY rare, though. Ion Disruptors are, in my experience, very slightly more commonly seen.

I once was boarding a HCP that had IonDs in his rear turret, god that was a real pain in the ass. Finally I managed to sneak two out of five guys in and take the thing.

You generally know you have been kissed by some Mass Drivers when your Destroyer has a point or two of hull damage despite full shields.

Seem to recall more ion d action by npc's in X3R than TC but in a game of this breadth it can just be a question of chance.

If you have a Patrol or Defend mission and you see Scorpions, then there usually will be the odd MD in effect.

Also, just been involved in a big Loom' Legacy dust up with Pirates/Boron and a little collection of my own, and there was a LOT of Ion Disruptor action. Caused mayhem with my fighters and their missile fire % setting.

What I find most annoying is when Pirate Brigantines use Ion D's. I've seen it many times in my games, and they always end up destroying all the nice loot their victims drop. Stoopid pirates! :pirat:
