adding hanger space to the m2 boron ray?

Post by Dinoff » Wed, 10. Jun 09, 15:20

as of right now i have not found any tutorials on modeling a hanger bay on a ship in gmax.
if anyone has knowledge of how to do this or knows of a tutorial i would be very grateful.

edit: i would like to thank everyone who posted here for their help i finally have the hangers working. all of you have been a great help and i know now how to at least copy and paste things in gmax and make them appear ingame.

*Problem Solved*

Not sure why you'd want to, couldn't you just use the shark?

In any case, if you want to add external docking (or to a more involved degree, a hangar and launch ports), you'll need to edit the ship's scene file (for hangar bay/launch ports, the ship's model as well) in gmax/3dsmax.

Adding external docking isn't overly difficult, but it's 1:1, clamp:ship. The hangar bay is quite a bit more involved.

yeah i want to add internal hanger space so i can dock my personal fighter and its 2 wingmen inside for those battles where you need speed over firepower. as much as i like the m1 ships i like the ray design better than the shark and the weapon count. i used the scene from the shark to get the hangers and then moved them to the surface of the model but i cant get it to show ingame when i put it in a mod cat

If you're only looking at adding 3 docking spaces, going with external "clamps" is the easiest way to go.

The trouble of adding a proper hangar *and* launch ports doesn't seem worth it.

If you were going to add that for three ships, you might as well just make the Ray a carrier and give it space for 10-50 ships.

Take a look at the options of GMax, you might need to increase the memory, the defaultoption isn't enough to import models from TC. Set it to 150mb, than it'll work.

There was no ship, or no ship *shown*?

Ie: You can target it, but there's nothing there.

If that's the case, you need to check the paths in the scene file. It's not finding it.

That sounds like an error in the Tship file. Most likely due to the fact you have added new items to the scene file the ids for all the weapons and cockpits will be different.

Compare whats in the Tship to the Scene file and you should find the problem.

Yep. If you're in the middle of the ship, the scene's messed up, specifically the main cockpit position.

Whenever I make a new ship, I place a cameradummy for the main cockpit, so I don't have to mess with the Ego defaults.
