What do I do with CIGs? (X3R)
I have developed quite a stockpile of these weapons. Now, each one is about half a million, so they'd be worth a bit if I sold them. Or since I have a large number of M5, M4, M3 and M6 (not to mention three cap ships), I could also install them on ships.
Just one problem . . .
What ships do they mount on? I'm yet to find one!
And once I find a mounting for them, are they worth keeping?

As I recall, the Nova is able to mount them, as well as a few other M3's and most larger ships. In X3R they're not the awesome hullbusters that they've become in Terran Conflict, but they can still serve some interesting functions- namely, they have a range that is far superior to the HEPT, and they toss fighters around. So on corvettes it can be a flak gun of sorts, used in a disruptive role. On smaller ships it can serve as a disruptive gun for escorts.
Long story short, they are fun, so keep a few of them. But don't feel bad about selling them either- the damage IS inferior to the HEPT.

It's been a while since I last played X3R, but I remember using them on Argon Novas and Eclipses.
As for how useful they are, you might find this old thread helpful.

Capital ships mount them too.
Long range, bullet faster than aHEPT, but low rate of fire, and no spectacular damage. Would be nice for disrupting the aim of ships attacking your Carrier, but since turret fires at same target until that target is dead, will not do much good.
You can push small ships against Asteroids, if you wish, but you wont get the credit for the "kill" so it only yields entertainment. And since games are not about entertainment ...

That's the most sadistic use of lasers I've ever heardautosave22 wrote:Top tip:
Get a Paranid M3+ Medusa, and mix PSG and CIG on the front. The recoil from the CIG blast keeps your target in the mushroom cloud of PSG death for much longer.

I liked to use them to pummel freighters to disrupt their turret fire. Besides, it's just fun to watch a huge superfreighter tumble end to end, over and over and over.....

It took a while, not much longer than killing an K in a Mamba Raider though. I had 4 of them on Chimera and it was really the only (safe) choice as I only had a Hyperion at that time. Hyperion is not good at fighting Khaak big ships. I'm pretty sure it is the only way to get rid of a Khaak invasion using free tools only (free mamba raider and free CIG boxes) but I did not try it in Mamba Raider. Shields could matter a little bit here as you have to dance at the very edge of KYON range.Cool, but how long did it take? CIG are energy-efficient, but from low rate of fire follows low rate of damage.
