I've just discovered the secret, on how to make sure that the AI doesn't shoot down your missiles, making them useful, and highly amusing at the same time! but mostly just amusing, and highly impractical.

I call it, "You can't shoot down all 330 of them!"

I wiped out, 4 frigates, a stations a half a dozen Xenon fighters, before they ran out of fuel and self destructed. :D :D :D

As a test last night, I took out a J and a K with only a barrage number 4 with an M8 (viper). I simply targeted the J and let a barrage of 4 fly. After the J blew, the rest went for the K. And it appears it was "just enough".

It's a lot less expensive using an M8 instead of M7M to play wipeout.

The only bad thing is, I can't dock M8's inside ships/stations; or has this been changed in the new patch? :?: =|

With PSG's, you can fire as many missiles as you'd like, no one gets through
unless the ship runs out of energy.
Of all the things i've lost, i miss my mind the most.

I suspect maybe 8 or even merely 4 (maybe even one) ion disruptor will stop that.

Hurray for an almost unfair "missile only" turret weapon.

while all of those are valid methods, none of them are nearly as amusing as watching a wall of missiles heading towards a target. the AI fires a few rounds from the turrets, and then just gives up. :D


and oops, I was still laughing too much to think the image might have been too big. :oops:

You never could dock M8s inside ships, but they can dock at stations just fine.

I find that if the ai shoots down one the rest go as a result of secondary explosions!!! how did u overcome that????

I'm pretty sure it's just that the AI doesn't know what to do when faced with that many. it fires a couple of shots, but then literally just gives up and stops shooting. and the way that they launch, the first 4-5 of them are strung out ahead of them massed volley following behind. so the first couple get shot down without being near the rest. lol

my favorite part is afterward, when you get to see what I call "mass missile migration." where they go head off to new hunting grounds in search of new prey. :D

Ah... Don't forget the game runs mostly on scripts, of which there is one for every "thing" in a sector, this is the same problem faced ages ago with Xenon invasions with 200+ ships.

If (supposing you were mad enough to do it) you were to just buy 500 M5s and fly them into a sector, you could clear out the entire place with no one shooting at you.

Oh my god, I spit out my drink when I read this! Missle spam in this game is the equivlent of grenade spam in any game that has grenades. Prepare for win!

oh it is, to get it to go like that, use the additional ship commands, and tell it to fire however many you want, (I choose 50), then go to the second additional ship command and do it again.

if you do it with just the one, then it slowly fires a volleys of missiles, if you tell it to do it a second time, you watch as the number of missiles you have drops to 0 in less then 2 seconds. (from 330 anyways)

m8's are a little too good. they definitely save time during patrol missions where the xenon decide to send 8 consecutive destroyer/carrier combos.

In my tests, an M2 with MARS has shot down up to 400 Hammers before they reached the ship.
And they were not fired in one conveniently dense swarm but from 6 different M7M.

If the AI uses the Egosoft missile defense then you need maybe 20-30 missiles, not 300. They hardly ever shoot at missiles at all.
IMO, that is a grave design flaw because it's a fact that M7M do exist in TC.
So as an alternative I created the Missile Defense Mk2, which does shoot at missiles. No more, no less.

hmmm it seems many of you are missing the point. :P

why use enough, when way too much is more fun. this isn't how I always approach situations. since that would take way too many fabs to be able to supply. :o lol it's purely just for fun. normal can be so boring, sometimes you just need the ridiculous! :D
