X3R - Cannot find a Tractor beam?

Post by mystikmind2005 » Fri, 12. Jun 09, 11:00

Hi, i'm doing the Bala Gi missions and i need a tractor beam.

I remembered seeing a tractor beam fab earlier in my travels and i made a mental note of it. After reading my 'mental note' some days later it seems to say the tractor beam fab was in Paranid Prime! Well its not there and i have spent hours and hours looking for it, also started deploying satelites throughout the universe thinking i will find it sooner or later,,,, Bah, half the universe now has satelites and i have had this, please, can somone just tell me where the damb thing is?
What intriguing weapons and shields will you use to protect your trade ships and sectors from the Khaak when your not home? unless you can afford capital ships *and luck* its all for nothing, NOTHING! Mwaahhhhahaha

iirc, there's one or two near Paranid Prime, but I forget exactly where (Duke's Vision, maybe).

The equipment dock in Interworlds should have some as well.

I see i'm not the only one afflicted with a memory block for these little buggers!! Perhaps they don't want to be found?

Check out your message log, you'll definitely find a mention of the Interworlds ED there.

Is there some other name for the Tractor Beam in the Interworlds EQ?
I have just been there now, there is no tractor beam listed at all?

My game version is 2.5

Edit: do i have to proceed further with the bala gi mission perhaps, before it appears there? I finished up to escorting the transport for the solar plant in grand exchange

AFAIK, after they mention you may find a TB in Interworlds, you should be able to go there and buy it. I did it 2 times, don't know what could be wrong. Is your game modded (but then again, would a mod damage the storyline?..)

Did you look at the EQ docks stock, or land and try then? I'm not sure, it might appear once you've docked.

Its definatelly a required plot item that the game should generate/regenerate for you until you have it.

I don't know if NPC traders would buy them, but you could always stay in sector for a bit.

My game is not modded. I have an advanced satelite in the sector, and that is how i checked. I have not tried docking there yet?

It's a bit later than that, iirc - it's not added to the dock until it's actually mentioned in one of the messages.

Found the tractor beam fab! it is in Dukes Vision. It was full but i only bought 1 since i'm not sure i can sell them anyware? Had a hard enough time unloading Laser towers earlier on in the game that i had foolishly bought and then discovered EQ docks don't take them!! Nothing drags out a simple transaction across half the universe like Trading stations can!!! never again.

FWIW There tends to also be a TB fab in Tharka's Sun (west of Cho's Defeat).

They sell like normal guns. As the player, you can sell them at any equipment dock - often for a tidy profit.

TBs are also good to manufacture. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that they can be manufactured from pure energy...

Duke's and Tharka/Cho are the two places that ought to have NPC Forges and Docks stocking TBs. Bala Gi adds Interworld Dock to the list.

However, the GoD is merciless on TB Forges. And without Forges there is no stock on Dock. That is why the X3R Bonuspack is really good to be installed; it ensures that the Forge in Duke pops back, should GoD wipe it out.

Tractor Beam is a weapon. Weapons can be sold to the Equipment Docks. Lasertowers, Drones, Satellites, and MD Ammo are not "weapons". They are harder to sell.

The resource requirements of player Tractor Beam Forge do not follow the normal pattern of weapon Forges. Apparently quite lucrative deviation.

Interesting!

I have about 15 UT's going now, so it is very rare to see any NPC high end fabs sitting full, i guess the UT's don't buy Tractor beams tho, hence the fab was full, and hence god will want to be rid of them!!

The other thing i noticed is allot of the high rank items such as gamma PPC items are also staying full even though it has been quite some time since i achieved the necissary race rank? I thought my UT's would be making a B line for them as soon as i hit the rank, but no, why is that?

IIRC, the UT chooses a ware randomly, and then looks if there is a profitable trade run for it. And it really means "trade run" as in "buy here, sell there". Logically, since the Docks can buy at most 2 GPPC, then the UT will buy at most 2 if it takes such run. That drops the stock from 8 to 6, and it wont take terribly long to be back at 8. (Unless NPC Free Traders clear the place.)

I use PHQ and Commercial Agent (CAG). Whenever a Forge has at least 7/8 in stock, the CAG can jump in and buy them all. Good profit from collecting all such offers, and the NPC Forges do not halt due to full product stock, so they keep needing resources. And I just "happen" to have resource manufacturers.

Ic thanks for that. I guess it is good that my UT's wont take all the stock, then i have a better chance of getting equipment for my ships!

I managed to get the Yot! wasnt too hard at all, mainly time consuming.
I used two Ospreys and my Pirate nova raider. Set up satelites in all the sectors. There was a bit of a fight when i hooked up then quiet for a long time. Eventually i managed to intercept a group of pirates comming down through merchants haven with one Osprey in OOS combat. My Osprey died! First time i ever saw 3 pirates kill an Osprey OOS??? Reloaded and next time the Osprey had two M3's with it, success! Another group of pirates came down in merchants haven while i was in sector. Confronted them head on in my Osprey with an Osprey and M3 wingmen, done!

Got back to the shiptard and the Yot parked itself in a strange place so as to cause collision with the station when used. Had to reload again after that pointless thing and moved the yot OOS, which worked fine.
