Revolutionary Breakthrough In Ship Repair! (new update)

Post by EmperorJon » Sun, 21. Jun 09, 16:04

EDIT: I know this thread is old, but it's valuable and already been resurrected. So I've updated it, see the bottom of this post.

We've all weighted down the Ctrl key before to repair a ship haven't we... but I just found out something else!

1. Give your spaceesuit SETA, eject it from your ship and pick it up.

2. Hold down Ctrl, then hold down J, SETA will start to charge, and stay at 1000% EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE FIRING.

3. Weigh down BOTH keys before lifting your fingers off, like the old landmine trick! :o

Possible Problems:

You may be killed, obviously.

You will need another SETA, ah. Probably best just to do it next to somewhere where you can buy it.

You could run out of Oxygen.

New Update:

Ejecting SETA. Try not to be near anything. Collision detection will 'bounce' it far away!

Try to be 5km away from a Trading Station. With a Docking Computer. Stop your ship and eject SETA. It should be sat directly behind the ship. Now eject, pick it up, do the trick, get back in your ship, select the trading station, hit autodock and buy another SETA. Instantly. :P

This is AWESOME. :D Good find! Of course it will now cost about 250 creds to do this sort of repair, but hey, pocket change...

Do you mind, everytime I cap say 3 or 4 M6's I then get out my book and read while I repair them.

Sure you've saved us all time (10 times less infact) but now I'll never finish my book :(

This discovery will seriously cut into my reading time.

I wish those upgrades on your space suit didn't disappear when you enter a ship. It would be cool to have a set of missions for example which would lead to earning a better permanent suit...
Where is it?

Wasn't this discovered like... months ago? It's how I got my first Aran to 90% hull before I realized that they're only 90M to repair from ~25%. Trick is to just use a TM or other ship with a hanger and rotate out SETAs from the docked fighters, then batch replace them later.

Does this mean that you cannot eject upgrades from your suit? Or just haven't tried? :P

Pick quiet area or sector to do this. Police usually knock out your SETA when your scanned, so maybe try border sectors or better if you don't want SETA to stop. Bring ship that needs repair to different position far away from traffic lanes cuz some stupid drivers would smash you. Even if pirates escorting their TS see you nearby, they just shoot at you for the kicks if you are hostile with them. I didn't know we can run out of oxygen being in space suit in space too long. How do I know how much oxygen I have?

Yeah that is the only way to repair! The only advise I can add is to bind SETA to Shift because fire is control

its a good temporary bind that allows you to weigh them down much easier.

As a side note I use the X3 Terran Conflict 2.0 manual to weigh them down. It is just heavy enough to hold them without doing to much dammage to they keyboard

I couldn't agree more delray for president!!!! or prime minister lol

EDIT: Oh and batch replacing!!!! You just have to have any ship with a hanger bay. You equip landed ships with whatever tech components you would like to batch replace e.g. SETA, Jump drives, Docking computers, Fight command softwares etc. You do this by buying them for the ship with the hanger bay and then doing a freight exchange with one of its docked ships. You can repeat this for as many ships as it can dock or until you have the ammount that you want.

Then when you want to supply/resuply a ship with the needed equiptment you just use a transporter to beam the desired equiptment over then re-equip the carrier from one of the docked ships. Rinse and repeat as needed...

This works great for resuplying ships in far away sectors with jumpdrives so you can jump them to where you want from the far reaches of space. Or for equiping capped ships with jumpdrives and all other neccesities without having to fly them half way across the galaxy

This simply doesn't work for me :|

with Control pressed, Pressing J does nothing at all.
IF I take my finger off Control...Seta starts to charge, but if I press fire ofcourse it canceles Seta.

Nope, can't eject them. Your suit doesn't even recognize they're there when you bring up its info screen. For the same reason, you can't buy them for your suit when you're docked shipless in a station.
