Update v1.3

:arrow: Added a log, displayed in the command preload menu, which should help inform you of issues arising.

:arrow: Bunch of minor fixes, mostly going way back to last year some time I can't remember.

:arrow: Updated OP with infinitely more descriptive info.


Please let me know how it goes with the log feedback. Personally I've used this plugin extensively. But, like many of you, I came across multiple occasions when it appears to just stop without warning.

Every single time I spent ages looking through the scripts to find the 'bug', and every single time it was just that the carrier didn't have enough of a ware, or couldn't find an upgrade for sale, or something.

Hopefully the new log will fix this issue by telling you why the command stopped before completing its task. If not, please let me know and I will add more logging at the sensitive parts.

Thx for the mod. I really like the idea of this mod, but I just got this and still trying it out.

I got a problem. When I run the "auto prep ship" command, it crashes my game before the menu shows up. I will explain how it happen below.

1. I was trying to equip 4 blastclaw with a magnetar. 3 blastclaw have all lasers equiped and the 4th one need 3 more lasers.
2. Docked all 4 ships on it, set all the settings and started the prep ship command.
3. All went well, ships got turnings and upgrades.
4. The magnetar dock at the equipment dock and the command was terminated
5. Logging says it does not have enough lasers and shields to equip the ship onboard, but there are shields and lasers available within 3 sectors range
7. I manually buy shields and lasers. When I got enough shields on the TM, I run the command again and the shields did transfer to the blastclaws. Command terminated again.
8. I try to do the same with lasers. Got the lasers, run the command and the game will crash before the menu shows up. It crashes the game even after I've restarted the game.

I'm sorry if it would be any help on the bug hunting, but any thought on why is this happening, or was it a known issue somehow? Thanks again for this mod and I really like your Military base revamp mod as well.

Indeed this script does not purchase equipment. It is left to the player to provide that. There are just too many options, e.g. if they player produces their own, or wants to wait for a better price, or just buy now at any price, or wait til there are enough in the galaxy, or whatever. That's why I recommend Manual Trade Extension as a complement to this plugin.

Anyway, somewhat more serious, crashing... Are you saying that you open the ships command console, hit the "Auto prep ships" command, then usually the preload menu shows up and you can configure the command before you run it. But instead, whenever you run the command, the preload menu doesn't show up and instead your game freezes? And does it freeze or does it crash to desktop?

Ah I see, I thought it would get lasers and shields automatically too. Still this mod is very helpful.

I could not tell whether it's freezing or crashing, so I'd just describe it. I'm using windows 7 and once I click on "auto prep ship", before I could see the menu, the game would freeze and then a message from Microsoft windows would pop up and say "X3TC has stopped working" and it's checking for a solution that will never be delivered.

I have 1 impulse ray emitter and 2 fragmentation bomb launchers to be delivered to blastclaw #4 (other 3 blastclaw are fully equiped). My TM was docked into a light weapon complex when I run the "auto prep ship" command. I tried to run the command when the TM is in space too, but without luck.

if you need any more info, I'll gladly provide. May be I should try reinstall this mod.

OK, CTD (crash to desktop), what you are experiencing, is almost never caused by a script. If a script is broken 90% of the time the game will freeze and become unresponsive, but will not 'crash' in the typical sense. So its likely there is some corrupt object that the menu script is trying to access. Hmm.

What is the status of your template ship (i.e. ship type, is it still alive, is it your personal ship, etc)?

You could try getting another Magnetar and trying with that, see if you can open the menu and then repeat the equipping process.

This is a baffling issue. If all else fails, perhaps you could send me a savegame?

I love the idea of this script, but I am having lots of trouble getting this to actually equip my ships. I have a Mammoth with 5 Discoverers as supply ships. I am trying to get them to equip Centaur, Dragon, and 2 Heavy Centaurs. I have been trying to get them equipped now for 2 real life days leaving my PC on using the Time Accelorator. Everything they need is within 5 jumps of where my home sector is, I even have a Shield Factory and an Equipment Dock of my own that the shields and most of the equipment could be recieved from. For some reason though, the Mammoth keeps trying to find the shields and equipment elsewhere instead of my own stations. I dont understand why. Could something be added to the script that sends you a message saying when something is wrong or when something is missing so the Player could fix it? And also so that ship ordered to do this will check your own stations FIRST, then other stations?

And yes, I have plenty of cash (I used cheats because I was thinking maybe that was the issue, so now I am sitting on over 500 million).

Also, I just remembered something else... the Mammoth has 5 Discoverers on it as suppl ships, but the Mammoth seems to only use 1 of them to purchase items, is this normal?

From the OP:
Wares will not be purchased. For that I suggest a combination with Manual Trade Extension. Use Manual Trade Extension to supply the equipment (possibly to a 'depot' intermediary ship) and Auto Prep Ships to equip.
There should be a log telling you what's wrong when you open the command menu.

Only one of the Discoverers will be used if there is only one ship to equip. If there is more than one ship, have you remembered to add them all to the supply ships list in the menu?

Is there a reason why the Waiting/Checking stage is taking a very long time to complete?

The equipping and arming part is amazing, but now my TM's are just snailing around each fighter 'checking'?

And does the 'When Finished: ferry/send ships to homebase' work?
I fly an OWP. What about you?

What does the log say when it is stuck "Waiting/checking"? This status appears whilst it is waiting for target ships or supply ships to do something, usually docking somewhere. If it stays stuck like that, it could be that you (or some other script) has ordered a target or supply ship to do something, taking it away from the expected routine, so the carrier permanently waits.

Hmm, been a while since I wrote and used/tested the "ferry/send ships to homebase". I definitely did at least some testing and it worked, but if you're having problems maybe there is some situation where it doesn't. Please let me know what you have found.

Well the log says "Configure: configuring target ship settings (2)". I've noticed the TM 'lurch' forward a bit every few minutes, but it doesn't seem to make much progress. Other than this quirk, all my ships ARE prepped properly though.

EDIT: I've two 'repro-ed' crashes of x3tc from auto prep ships so far :( . Each time happens when the ship is prepping and when I select the option in the command menu to check the log, the game crashes.
I fly an OWP. What about you?

OK, the 'lurch forward' behaviour is a workaround for a bug in X3TC where ships will sometimes stop outside a carrier and never dock. So that means the carrier is waiting for a ship(s) to dock at it.

Thanks for the report on the crash. What kind of crash is it? I.e. does the game freeze and become unresponsive, or does it crash to desktop with an error?

Nazzet posted above about a similar crash, but I wasn't able to reproduce it. So your report is possibly confirmation of this issue. It seems there may be yet another issue with X3TC I have to find a workaround for. Urgh. Probably with text formatting for the log message or something.

Good point about the lurch forward, I do notice that bug with other ships docking at my carriers. However, the TM is lurching while its landing bays are all full. I believe that it doesn't seem to ferry OR send the already docked ships home (and the home carrier is in the same sector, too).

The crash is very interesting, the game crashes VERY quick with a pop-under error box which has focus once the game crashes.

OK, so it sounds like there is an issue with the send ships to homebase option, I will look into it when I can. Thanks for the heads-up on that.

The crash is a bit more serious though. Do you happen to have coloured names or special characters (e.g. '&', '\' etc) in the names for your target or supply ships? Does it happen every time you run the command, or just sometimes, with precisely the same initial conditions?

Hmm, its hard to pinpoint the crash. I DO use MARS auto-collection on my supply ship and thus it now shows the 'empty/full' cargo number in color, and that can(?) cause the crash I suppose. However, I do not believe it causes all crashing in entirety. The two times it crashed was when it was performing the post-equipping (i think the checking/verifying) stage and I opened the auto-prep menu.

I'll try equipping some more ships when I get around to it and see if I can hopefully pinpoint the crash.

EDIT: Slight 'request', if possible. When doing turret commands, is it possible to have individual turret commands instead of overriding one turret with all of one command? I.e. Front turret: attack my target, Rear Turret: missile defense.

This is a great script, but im having a bit of a noob issue - how do i know/get running the AL plugin that sets up repair laser fabs? Where can i find them and how long does it take to produce repair lasers?

Do i need to start the script editor first?

EDIT - Nevermind, figured it out, and it was default OFF!

For those who dont know or are noob like me, you need to go to the bottom icon in your menu, where options like load/save/controls reside, and select 'gameplay'

From the gameplay menu there is an 'artificial life' selection, among other useful settings. Go to 'artificial life' and youll see your current AL plugins - you need to make sure that its set to ON.


I presume the script editor is unnecessary, but for those who dont know how to turn that on, change your pilot's name to 'Thereshallbewings' then go to your ship's command menu (shift C) then press S

Yes, most people know all this already, but you never know, someone might be a dunce like me @:(

I dont think there are any repair laser fabs per se

Rather, it seems from the changelog

That the AL plugin just adds 5000 or so repair lasers at 64cr each (default) to each equipment dock.

I assume this was done for compatibility, and to bypass any potential balance/economy/patience issues with repair laser fabs. Having fabs would be nice, but if it means editing a bunch of files that other mods might, the loss of compatibility far outweighs the bit of immersion youd gain.

Every damn spacesuit in the universe has repair lasers so its not too far off base to say thousands might be buyable at an EQ dock

ive been looking around at the equipment docks in several different locations and none of them so far have repair lasers for sale.. does it take time for them to be shown on the products list or is there something else wrong that I just dont know about yet lol

Edit tried it again with the carrier docked when i ran the prep and made sure the template ship ha not moved/died and this time i got a flash of the menu befor the CTD

I got a CTD as soon as I tried to open the APS menu today. The template ship that I had been using was recently blown up so that's most likely the cause for my troubles. Blowing up the APS ship and buying a new one fixed it, since that reset everything.

EDIT: Not sure if it makes any difference, but I was using a magnetar with 4 discoverer haulers in it. Used the same ship with the same settings other than target ships for days before I ran into problems, which is why I think the ship that equipment/upgrades/etc were copied from getting blown up was the cause.
