Wingmen

is there any need for wing men or should i just try to upgrade my ship to a better one or a higher class? i would like to try wing men first to see if i like how it works.

well you can always try and see, then re-load if you don't like it.

I'd say for early stages try and upgrade ship(s) 1st, then when you get more money try one (wingman) out.
If you can live with the loss and replacement costs, then go for it.
