I've capped 5 Akuma's so far, and all I've got are a few 2GJ shields... How many do I have to board before I get my first IBL?

It's entirely random. So you might get loads next time, or you may have to be (even more) patient.

1. save the game just before your marines hack the core and release control to you.
2. see what goodies dropped.
3. if you did not get the stuff you wanted, Load your last save and go back to 2.
4. Profit!

Took me about 30 Akumas before I hit the Jackpot.

Then I got 26 in one go.

Guh.

They should give you what they are carrying... make it more realistic, or atleast a portion of what they are carrying (due to damage).

I mean... the money is good... I'm just running out of boarding pods =(

Get in with the pirtates and checkout Loomankistrats treaty you should find a place there that makes them, thats if its still standing ofcourse and if it is guard it and keep it stocked and so long as you stay on good terms with the faction there you'll have a constant supply.

In my game there is an IBL factory in Weavers Tempest which is also the Yaki home sector.

Actually, there are 2 IBL forges in Weaver's Tempest.

At least, in the start of the game...

Yaki and Pirates aren't exactly "Friendly" with me.

Pirates aren't friendly to me either, but I looked for a hack mission and made their IBL factory friendly to me.

Light bulb missions, usually in sectors next to the one the station is in.

Hmmm....guess I've just been really lucky then. I've capped 5 TL's (Mammouth, Orca, Elephant, and two Albatross). The Mammouth had 2 IBLS intact upon capture, and I've moved those over to my shiny new Panther. Each TL I've capped with the exception of the final Albatross had at least 1 IBL installed. I've now got the front 6 guns on the Panther as IBL's. Given the loot I'm getting from the TL's, not to mention the 15 - 20 million credits I get when I sell them, I'm not looking for any M2's yet.

It seems to me that destroying the Yaki TL's and M2's actually has higher chance of getting IBL as a loot than boarding them. I occationally sweep through Yaki sector and get 1~3 IBLs.

Just for the record, I destroyed Akuma in Yaki core sector and got 7 IBL's. Destroyed it second time and got 6. 3rd time none. And 4th time dropped 10. So if you're only after IBL's, destroying the Akuma seems to be better option than capping it.
